SEPTEMBER 2012

Anyone being visited by Isaac? We had a huge thunderstorm this afternoon which happened right as we finished painting the north wall of our house. I am not sure if the storm was part of an outer band of Isaac or not, but it was a doozie. The paint stayed on the house, thankfully, but the storm came from an unusual direction and blew into the barn. We had a nice mess to clean up there.

We now have one grey wall and three tan ones. I hope the weather lets us finish painting the house...we look a bit strange right now.

Hey guys. Happy September. Just a quick check in from PA. Isaac is headed our way for next week.

I have 2 count 'em 2 whole days off and then back to the salt mines for another entire week. This working is killing my leisure time. LOL

I've been reading the forum before work, but just don't seem to have a spare minute lately. After this month is over things should settle down to a normal working schedule (I hope). The change in bosses has been a real experience, my customers are still in shock over Barb taking her retirement. It is strange without her being there.

It's finally cooling off here in PA. Ace & I have started our jogging/walk again. Just couldn't bring myself to jog in 95 degree weather.

Have a great holiday everyone. I'm off to find something to wear to church. Glad I can start wearing my fall clothing.

Love & prayers to all..

Ark, the video is about a young gal in New Zealand riding over some BIG fences saddleless and bridleless. The horse is a 3-day horse, but has a truly great mind.

It sounds like you should invest in Hughes net for a while until you can get some other internet service.

Trudy, I sure know what you mean about work interferring with leisure. I think my hours are going to be a little better now that several of our people are back.

Isaac visiting us all afternoon yesterday. The kids were playing in the water next door. There was no lightning so they just kept swimming and were having a ball. Isaac started again with a second band about 6:00 this morning. I think he's about done now.

Guess I'll get some knitting done today.

I think that fall is in the air, it was cooler this morning and the air has a smell of fall init although our first cold weather does not happen until halloween but any day with temps under 90 is great and lower humidity is a plus, we delt with Isaac for a whole week with rainand thundershowers, I hope the rain is getting to places that realy need it I know that Louisana did not need as much as it got, and pray that they get back to normal soon, they are still recovering from Katrins 7 years ago almost to the day. everyone have a great day

No Isaac here. Been gloomy and overcast for the past two days but other than humidity, nothing.

Been busy on "projects" the past couple of days. Yesterday cleaned up and organized the spare room. You know, the one supposedly for guests but in reality the one you keep the door closed to because whenever you have something you don't know what to do with you toss in on the bed with the intention of taking care of int later. Yesterday was Later.

Today's project was too big for one day. Only got two stalls done. Stripped out both stalls, including the stall mats. Each stall has one mat under the hay rack to keep the hay off the floor, the rest of the floor is dirt/sand. Heavy on the dust. Then leveled the floors. Tried a couple of different ways to clean the rafters and walls including using the shop vac and the power washer. After tackling the cob webs, flooded the stalls to try and control the dust. At that point I had to call it quits. Will need to replace the mats after the water has had time to soak in. Willtry to do two more stalls tomorrow which will leave the hay storage stall for another day.

Laundry is next on the project list followed by whatever I think of next...

I hope all enjoy the Labor Day weekend.

D.

Indy, didn't you get any rain yesterday or early this morning? We got a LOT yesterday and some more this morning.
I always call a room like you described a "mystery room". It's mystery what's in it. I also have a mystery drawer. My current mystery drawer is much better organized than those from the past. I actually know what's in it and how to describe where everything is. For me, that's an extreme accomplishment. Laughing

Hi All. Got bumped out again but since I’ve had nothing fun or exciting to say there was no point logging back in – lollol

Still nothing fun or positive but it’s a new month, the Blistering heat/humidity is downgraded to Disgusting and I’m still poulticing/wrapping Joker’s torn ligaments/sesamoiditis which, I’m sure, is going to last into the next lifetime.

Duke colicked AHHGAIN (that's 5 or 6 since early March), a few nights back because of said heat/humidity and the fact that when he hollered for the Arab, the Arab ignored him and wouldn't come out from hiding to where Duke could see him. I had a feeling he was going to colic and sure enough, soon as he got in his stall he dropped like someone had pulled the rug out from under him. I got some Banamine in him, we got him up, Kenny walked him while I fed everyone else (Duke got nothing but hay), and as soon as Kenny said Duke made a dive for the green grass, I knew he'd be alright.

It was late by the time I got done cleaning/poulticing/wrapping Joker so I had plenty of time to watch Duke. He ate his hay the entire time; I was thankful, yet again, the Banamine snapped him right out of the colic. I don't know much longer that will go on because he is 25 with Equine Metabolic Syndrome, hind gut ulcers and the vet is suspicious of lipomas.

I've had horses non-stop for 53 of my 65 years. I have to say that I have spent more on vet bills, ancillaries, special feeds, since 2007 than I did in all the total previous years. I'd give anything to go back to the days before GMO feeds, shots, and coggins pale

Thankfully we had heavy cloud cover all day today and the wind was cool when it kicked up, so we bushogged & mowed as soon as I got the horses turned out. We have left Severe Drought/crunchy brown grass/ status to not being able to keep up with mowing & bush hogging. I can’t believe how thick the grass has come, in a month.

This is the second pasture bushhogging since the end of July and parts of the pasture are already up to the hood of the Ford 3000, which is pretty tall.

Kenny had to work all day Saturday but is off for Labor Day, so we will be laboring on the tractors.

Well let me re-phrase that – WE will be laboring on both tractors as long as the sun doesn’t come out; if it comes out and stays out, I will be in the house because I can’t handle the heat, if there’s matching humidity.

They have put much of Middle Tennessee (including our county) in a “tornado watch box” until 11:00 PM. Even though I don’t want to mow or bush hog anymore, I really hope we get rain and no wind. We need rain but I'm tired of Kenny having to get on our 12 pitch roof to replace shingles - doesn't help he's scared of height but he gets up there anyway.

That pretty much sums me up <--see why I haven't posted - lollollol

I am glad to see you! At least you are able to log in now. What have you been up to?

TWH
You obviously love your horses. You sure work hard at making them comfortable. Feet issues are so hard to deal with.

Well we certainly labored all weekend. We got the house mostly painted. The high peaks are still not painted, but all the rest is. We dodged rain all weekend.

Donnie trimmed Areion's feet and Daisy's front feet...then a storm rolled thru and that ended the trims. We plan to bring them home next weekend.

One of our housecats, Creampuff, got outside by accident and we can't find her. We are not happy about it. She is an indoor cat and very afraid of the outdoors.

Finally found time to watch the video of the girl riding/jumping bareback. All I could say was WOW! She must have velcro for a butt. I use to think that I rode pretty good when I was younger, but never that good. Sure could tell the horse loved her and what he was doing.

Nope, Ellen. Never got the rain over the weekend. It pouring right now though, does that count for anything?

I got two more stalls done yesterday, but not the two I planned on. Ended up doing the hay storage stall instead of Tiberius'. Perhaps I'll get that last one done this weekend.

Ark, it's just awful when the critters disappear and we never know. Sure hope Creampuff decides to come home.
It sure is good to hear you talking about the usual things you do, and getting back to normal.

Indy, I didn't get a drop of the rain you got this morning. The humidity is super high thought.

We had a great week end ..........lots of kids, dogs, food, and fun. We have one trailer that has a huge elk rack right on the front on a frame....Sun night we filled it with underware.....the epitome of trailer trash.
Mon we had our brats and hots dog fling with kids running, falling, crying, chasing, dog couble chasing, and the good old 3 legged races which were a disaster.......THat's what made it all so funny and fun.....those working family members headed back home fairly early so the evening wasx practically dead. All sreturned safely and tired.

No other news.....oh, ARK, I worked sev colts literally in off the range.....halter broke, tying, leading, shots etc.....mostly tied them to their moms and walked off with them. That works like a wonder. They stayed in one week and sent them out again with a couple of old mares......LOL......another year of natural training.
THey were all two year olds and a lot of fun......anyhow, they are humanized now and know the game plan.

Everyone have a good day. God bless. Prayers for ALL.

Any sign of Creampuff?

Nothing to report. Unless you want an update on the weather. In that case, humid and overcast. Big news around here is that property tax assessments for the year on what we have to pay next year have been mailed. Mine pretty much stayed the same. I've heard of some that have gone up close to 30%. Yikes.

I pretty much had a slug day today. Just about every time I sat down, I fell asleep. I think several days of painting and running around caught up with me today. I feel fine now.

I had a blood test yesterday and my hemoglobin went up a little! Another test next week and then hopefully I will be done with doctors for a few weeks.

Donnie has seen Creampuff in the bushes a few times, but hasn't been able to catch her yet. She has reverted to the feral cat she was when we first caught her five years ago. He did catch the possum that has plagued us for over a year, though. He has the live trap baited with tuna tonight. We originally caught her with sardines intended for a weasel...which we never caught.

Graymare
Sounds like you had some fun with those colts! I would have liked watching that. Training Areion is becoming a high priority, she comes home this weekend.
