Alrighty then! I think we are back in business. Welcome to December, y'all! santa

GRAYMARE:
We did have a great time at the parade today! rendeer It was a strange one, though. First we discovered last night that the tires on the pony cart were dry rotted and we searched high and low for new tires. Found them at K-Mart. Did you know bicycle tires come in little boxes now? We didn't. Rolling Eyes Thankfully a kind store person pointed them out to us. If she hadn't, we would have walked the over 2 mile parade route today instead of riding in the cart.

We got the cart, Zippy and Trinket all jazzed up and made it to the line-up on time. We were the very last entry in the parade, and it was a long one. It was almost a half hour after the parade started before we even moved. The little kids loved Trinket trotting along beside Zippy! They were so cute, they really make all the work worthwhile.

Then about a third of the way thru the parade, we had an equipment malfunction. A very important strap broke on Zippy's harness, one that attached him to the shaft on the right side. Suddenly he had half his harness dragging the street, right in front of the biggest part of the downtown crowd. I jumped out of the cart and finagled a repair very quickly, not a very good one, had Donnie hold part of a strap, and we took off at a fast clip to catch up with the rest of the parade with the crowd cheering Laughing . It was a good thing Zippy was in such an accommodating mood. I didn't have much of any directional control, so no making circles or zig-zagging around to slow him down. He walked or slow trotted when asked and did a great job with little input from me. Trinket was a trooper, she kept up with him and looked cute. Donnie and I had to sit on the front edge of the seat to keep the cart from trying to flip backward. It was a much more intense parade than usual! We had a blast... ClappingHands

We got home after dark. Both ponies probably felt they had worked for their living today. We forgot to take a camera, so if no one sends us a photo, you will just have to imagine Trinket in her red wings and little crown on her head and lots of poinsettias all over her back. Very Happy

Happy December. Can you guys believe it is December already? OMG it just seems like summer arrived and here it is Christmas time. .

ARK: The parade sounded wonderful except for the broken equipment excitement.

We had our Military Order of The Purple Heart Christmas party last night. The guest of honor Murray Lewis who turns 90 next month. He gave us a good scare last year, this year he was there early, last year he fell asleep in the bathtub and Tom couldn't get into the house to get him. Shocked The food was good and everyone had a nice time.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Love & prayers......

December 2012 Radfordparadedonniedian

A friend of Donnie's sent him a picture taken with a cellphone. It is a bit fuzzy, but at least gives an idea of our parade entry. It was taken after our unfortunate harness malfunction, you can see the low breast strap hanging on by a thin strap I tied to the top of his surcingle. He was such a good boy, putting up with hauling us with only one side of the harness, the right side was barely attached at all. Both ponies are wooly bears right now, so different looking than
in the July 4th parade. The crowds were great at Radford, lots of cheering and photo taking.

I was really beat today after all the activities of the past two days getting ready for the parade, and then participating in a rather stressful one with the harness problems. I walked in a fog all day until I got a short nap before going down to put the horses up for the night. I think my brain needed a re-boot, Laughing . I didn't get to ride Ivan like I wanted today, I just didn't feel mentally safe to do it. I feel fine now. Naps can be good. I hope to ride Ivan on Tuesday, have a doctor appointment tomorrow tongue .

Here's an update from HT's son MATT

Nov 28:
for an update on John Sr.
It looks like we are in for a long rehab recovery. Dad is unable to move his left side. I guess if there is one good thing about him having a stroke, it is that he had it in his right hemisphere of his brain. The things that are effected by a stroke there are art, music, the left side of the body, and his emotions. He is right handed so he still has his strong side to work with, and I have always wondered about his artistic/musical/emotional abilities anyways. Maybe it will keep him from getting too down about the whole incident. He seems to be much more physicly stable this morning. His heart is still in an arhythmia, but seems to be controlled in rate. His lungs have been a problem, but they have been able to wean his oxygen down considerably. I have been told they may try and get him out of the ICU today and back to the stroke floor. I am very thankful to all of you who have supported and prayed for my father and our family, I ask that you please continue and keep us in your prayers.
Friday:
For an update, They have moved John Sr. to the stroke floor on 7 south. He is in room 750. He remains stable and will be starting physical, occupational, and speach therapy.
Sunday:
A late update on John Sr, I went up late Sunday and spent the evening with Dad. I helped him up to a chair and he had good strength to help me with his right leg, but the left one continues to be without movement as well as his left arm. Dad sat up for 2 hours. I started to help him shave, but the contrary old fella would have none of theat. He took the razor away from me and attempted it himself.
Speach continues to be slow at times and very soft spoken when it is present. Dad assured me that it was because it is hard to push the air out. I have never seen him with problems pushing "air" out before, but I regress. I asked him if he was depressed at all, His reply was "Not particularly." I really do appreciate all the support that has been shown by so many differnt people. I wish you all the blessings of God.

ARK, sometimes we just need to take a nap. It does wonders for the mind and body. Cute picture of the parade. I didn't realize just how little Trinket it. I think the wooly look was totally right for a winter parade.

You'd never know it was winter here. (not that I'm complaining.) It's already in the 50's this morning and it's only 8:45. We haven't had a flake of snow yet this season. I heard over the weekend that it's been 270 days since we've had any measurable snow.

Indy, thanks for the update on John. I do pray that he will continue to improve.

Zippy and Trinket are both cute as can be.
Last week, I thought maybe Zippy had moved to New York. There was a pony that looks like Zippy, who took his buddy the zebra and went for a tour of the town on their own. They belonged to a guy with a petting zoo. He accidentally left a gate open and they took off. They were caught and returned without a problem.

Let me preface this by saying I don't get out much.

I went to Big R on Saturday to pick up a short piece of garden hose. Any idea how hard it is to find garden hose in December in Northern Indiana? Especially if you're looking for a specific size and length? Anyway, Big R is kind of like Tractor Supply. In the parking lot someone had set up a pony ride, get your picture taken with Santa and the Pony etc. Business was not booming. I was a bit startled when I walked in the doors and past the cash registers when low and behold, here comes Santa leading a pony with a little girl aboard down the aisle. It wasn't a miniature pony either. Cute!

Thanks for the update on HT. He is a strong fellow. I bet he works his way out of this.

INDYAPP:
Yep, a nap does great things on occasion! I would have loved to see that Santa/pony in the store! Nice of the store to allow the ride inside....although the weather has sure been good to be outside. It was 67 degrees here today and going to be 70 degrees tomorrow. My kind of winter! cheers

Trinket is 30 inches tall and Zippy is 37.5 inches tall. They were a hit with the little kids. As I was waiting on Donnie to retrieve the trailer after the parade, I had a bunch of kids come up to pet the ponies. The last little boy that was there, who was 8 years old, told me that he used to believe ponies weren't real. He hadn't seen one and thought they were made up. I let him sit on Zippy for a few minutes while his mother got a photo of him and made his day.

ELLEN:
I would need tranquilizers after finding my ponies wandering the streets of NY! affraid Or new underwear or something....

I made it to the doctor on time today. In fact, I was exactly 2 days early. Somehow I wrote the wrong date for the appointment on my calendar. Rolling Eyes Luckily, they had a cancellation and took me right in. I felt a bit foolish... Embarassed

TRUDY:
Congrats to your 90 year old friend! I bet the ceremony made him happy. Also congrats on getting your Christmas tree up. I need to work on ours, which is a little difficult since it is in the loft and I can't reach it.

CB:
Where are you?

SUNNY:
How are you?

DONNA:
Good to see you posting! Do you get any riding in these days?

BEECH:
Time to come out and tell us about life in Maine!

RICK:
Don't you love us anymore? sniff..... shrug

OL'MAN:
How is Virginia feeling? Better I hope.

GRAYMARE:
Are you and Faith getting some rides in? It must be your good time of year now.

CAROL:
What are you up to? Is AZ treating you well?

EVERYONE ELSE:
What the heck are you waiting on? Post and tell us how you are!!.... hug

Christmas Cookie Rules

1. If you eat a Christmas cookie fresh out of the oven, it has no calories because everyone knows that the first cookie is the test and thus calorie free.

2. If you drink a diet soda after eating your second cookie, it also has no calories because the diet soda cancels out the cookie calories.

3. If a friend comes over while you're making your Christmas cookies and needs to sample, you must sample with your friend. Because your friend's first cookie is calories free, (rule #1) yours is also. It would be rude to let your friend sample alone and, being the friend that you are, that makes your cookie calorie free.

4. Any cookie calories consumed while walking around will fall to your feet and eventually fall off as you move. This is due to gravity and the density of the caloric mass.

5. Any calories consumed during the frosting of the Christmas cookies will be used up because it takes many calories to lick excess frosting from a knife without cutting your tongue.

6. Cookies colored red or green have very few calories. Red ones have three and green ones have five - one calorie for each letter. Make more red ones!

7. Cookies eaten while watching "Miracle on 34th Street " have no calories because they are part of the entertainment package and not part of one's personal fuel.

8. As always, cookie pieces contain no calories because the process of breaking Causes calorie leakage.

9. Any cookies consumed from someone else's plate have no calories since the calories rightfully belong to the other person and will cling to their plate. We all know how calories like to CLING!

10. Any cookies consumed while feeling stressed have no calories because cookies used for medicinal purposes NEVER have calories.

It's a rule!

So, go out and enjoy those Christmas Cookies - we only get them this time of year!

Nice cookie rules ..... I can live with those ... LOLOL

Ark .. The weather here has been great but they are saying a lot colder next week .... then the high will be around 60 .... which is below normal ... the normal temp is upper 60s .... so we have been wayyyy above normal, and now we are headed to below normal .... They aren't saying how long it will last though .....

I put my little tree outside on a table and it looks pretty cute .... some do nothing and some go over the top on the decorations, but it is fun to drive through the park at night and have a look.

ARK, I'm here finally...same old problem when the month changes it won't let me in to reply, I can read tho and keep up, thank goodness...and then after a few days, it will let me sign in and reply/post!

ON Moday we had to go get a cat scan....Harry held my hand when I got the IV...which they all had fun poking me, and finally I said...OK, you lab people, happy to meet ya's but if the person who is to start my IV for the cat scan can give it a try and then get the blood he/she needs out of it for this test..."oh we don't do it like that"...and I said welcome to MY world, today you will....and they did. The guy who did the IV got it in first try and they got their damn blood and everyone was happy, specially me! I won't let that lab touch me again at this biggggg hospital in San Angelo. Am waiting on results....My arm looks like I am now a different color...like purple and black! They said they were going to put it in my leg, and I came unglued.

We had a saddle club meeting last night, xmas parade and float this Saturday, and xmas party afterwards at the club house.

I found a trainer for Rocky...after xmas. He has an opening in February....will get him finished so he should be safe enuf for me to ride then. I like this horse.

Puppies are eating solid food now...they are four weeks old....will be seven weeks by xmas and ready to go...to their new homes As long as they are eating for two weeks I'll let them go at 7 weeks. And thse lil monsters are eating already....mama is still nursing, but they are hungry lil critters!...as well as cute as the dickens.

It's nice to be back on....

I am still here, just been real busy, didnot want to say anything until it was set in stone but Kent has finaly been accecpted to Social Security, they told him he had to wait 5 months to be eligable for S.S.D, the only drawback to that is he is not eligable for medicare for 2 years, right now he needs the money but he needs the medical more, so at the last minute they are now saying he might qualify for S,S,I which automaticaly comes with medicade, that is the only hold-up on his benifits he should get his first check the 29th of December, if he gets S.S,D he will get 982 dollars a month dating back to September, but if they give him S.S.I, he will get 782 dollars a month dating back to March when he first applied, on one hand he needs the higher benefit to get caugh up on bills, but on the other hand he desperatly needs medical coverage, so now it is up to Social Security what they do but at least they now except that he is unable to work and he won't lose his home,so things are loking up for us and my truck is paid off no more payments that freed up some much needed money,I can actualy buy some clothes, I haven't been able to do that for 5 years, it feels good to not be stressed out about money as much,

SUNNY glad to hear Kent will be getting a check. I understand the need for larger checks, but hope for the insurance, especially if he would be without for another 2 years.

Have fun shopping for clothes. I HATE shopping, but I breakdown about once a year and go out with a friend. I think they have made clothes sizes bigger so we think we are loosing weight. I went out a few weeks ago and had to buy a size smaller than usual, and unfortunately, I KNOW I haven't lost weight. It still made me feel good. Bet if I go dig out some of my old clothes in the size that I bought, they won't fit. What d'ya think?

CB, so why did the cowboy buy a dauschund? He wanted to get a long little doggie. Ba dum bump.

Hi Gang..........I'm back from a "shopping trip" with the gang........we didn't shop at all. We went hiking and did Broken Arrow, we then went out to a great Mexican restaurant, back to friend's aunt's condo, talked almost all night, up in the morning, coffee, and off to breakfast and then home.................WAY fun. There were 6 of us and that was our gang Christmas in Sedona. We went to Holy Cross for chapel before breakfast, and now we're all in the "spirit" of Christmas. It was good, for sure.

SUNNY, whew. Sure hope it all comes together soon and that life will be less stressful.

INDY, size doesn't count, does it. I'm a size. I think 6 slim, eat 12 chubby.

CB, hoping your scan results come out fine.

ARK, is your energy back yet?

God bless. Prayers for all.

Same stuff...just a different day.

This past Thursday, I was headed up to BLAND, Va. to make a delivery. Had to go up the mtn...it is 8 miles up and is a hard pull. When I was in my other truck, I could count on dropping 2 gears and working my way up at 35 mph. This truck I've been driving this year had been "tuned" up to produce 600 HP. I was anxious to see what a difference that would be (going up that mtn.) over the 430 HP in other truck. Only dropped one gear and we went up at 55-58 mph. NICE!!

At MM 17 on I=77 in VA...something happened and I lost the motor due to some deep internal problem. Had to be towed home after dropping trailer at a small truck stop. The "tuned up" electronic control has been switched off with our other identical truck and I will now likely ride with 515 HP. That is....IF boss even gets this truck repaired and put it back in service. Long/short...I'm likely outta a job till after holidays. Really does NOT bother me a bit, but I hate it for boss. You could NOT GIVE me a big rig just because they are so expensive when stuff breaks on them..

Carol's birthday was yesterday...and I barely remembered in time to take her out for dinner last night. Neither of us are very "big" on birthdays any more, so I guess I dodged that one OK.

Snoop joins me in saying "Our love to all"

Rick

PS: Thanks for the updates on HT. IF I knew WHERE the old coot was incarcerated, I might be able to go visit him some day. Anybody know??

SUNNY:
Great news! wavy I am so glad things have finally worked your way. Merry Christmas!

CB:
Sorry about the delay for posting you have every month here. I don't have a clue why that is. I thought posting the link to the next month instead of just saying to go to the basket would get you here easier. Guess not.
Do you know your catscan results yet? BTW: Kumquat gives me a catscan every morning. I wake up to her standing on my chest and licking me on the nose Very Happy .

RICK:
About time you came out of hiding! ClappingHands Sorry about the truck problems. Happy Birthday to Carol!

GRAYMARE:
Yep, you are a party girl Laughing . Sounds like a fun time. The pix are gorgeous!! I'd like to visit Sedona someday.
My energy seems to have returned. I was off for a couple of days, but rode Ivan yesterday in the arena with no problems. I think the parade wore me out. It is amazing how much time goes into doing one of those.

Speaking of the parade, Donnie went to work today and found about 10 pix posted around the building of us in the Radford parade last Saturday Laughing . One of the ladies at work found it online and spread the news. It shows us just after the harness strap broke, you can see it dangling. I fixed it about 30 seconds later than the photo was taken. Donnie is holding up the right shaft. I look a little grim, I was trying to figure out what to do at this point.

Anyway, here is the link:
http://blogs.roanoke.com/theburgs/files/2012/12/IMG_2989.jpg

You may recognize the red sweatshirt Donnie is wearing, GRAYMARE!
