| Okay, sexy equestrians: And here we are! May sure took long enough to get here. Our first day of May was really pretty. Sunny and about 70 degrees. This is unlike the previous three days of constant rain and gloom. April ended by drowning, but May looks to be making up for it right away. I had a really nice ride on Ivan and Areion today! Ivan and I had a good lesson, then Lori worked with Areion. At the end, I rode Areion while she rode Ivan. Areion was really great! She was in a working mood and didn't mind me riding her when she knows there is someone on her that isn't giving the same signals as Lori does. We walked and trotted and I had a great time! Areion really is like riding in a big fancy luxury car while Ivan is a little speedy sports car. She doesn't like leading Ivan, she likes following him where she can keep an eye on him. Ivan doesn't mind either way. It was fun on both horses. If all goes well, we are taking Ivan and Areion for a trail ride on Sunday. Donnie is still working on my trailer, but hopes to have it working then. | |

| The filly races are all on Friday before the Derby on Saturday. The Oaks went off about 5:30 EST. Derby coverage starts at noon on NBCS for the races leading up to the Derby on Saturday evening. | |

| It's going to be a very busy TV sports day. First, is the Derby and all the races before that. Between some of those races, I'll check in on the NASCAR race. And after the Derby is over, we'll see if the Indiana Pacers have what it takes to go to the next round of playoffs. After all that riding, and driving, and dribbling, I'm going to be tired tonight. | |

| Cinderella stories do happen now and then. It's fun to see a low dollar horse win the big prize.
Of course, the biggest prize is seeing Eli walking toward you looking for a good scratching.
I just wish that Rosie had a better mount. She hung in there until about the 3/4 pole and then didn't have anything left. | |

| I would pick Eli! Nice photo of him! Pretty field, too.
Well I missed the race. I take it that Chrome didn't win. Nice name, though.
Donnie and I worked like mad all day. I cleaned the barn while Donnie worked on repairing the horse trailer's tack door. We spent the afternoon pulling a yellow weed called by local farmers 'wild mustard' in our lower hayfield. I need to look it up to get its real name, but nothing eats it. We got about half of it pulled up. The roots look like parsnips. If we don't get decent hay, it won't be for lack of hours spent pulling up some weed or other.
We got back to the house, had lunch/dinner, then I fell asleep just long enough to miss the KY Derby. We went back down to the barn and Donnie trimmed Areion's feet. We got in at sunset. We are tired!

| CB: Oh, thanks! Chrome did win. Well Donnie hauled us to a new section of the New River Trail today. Lori rode Areion and I rode Ivan from Lone Ash to Allisonia...about 6.5 miles. It was a beautiful sunny day, 75+ degrees, but very windy. Ivan was on the alert and was more spooky than he has been in awhile, but not uncontrollable when he did spook at the big horse eating rock or the culvert waiting to swallow him. We just danced around a bit more than he has in recent times. We trotted most of the way, although Areion would fall behind doing a trot, then canter to catch up with Ivan. Ivan can out trot just about anyone. Areion only spooked a bit at one bicycle, and we saw a bunch of them. Basically both horses did very well. Areion did refuse to cross the double yellow line on the highway when she first saw it. I had to go back with Ivan and lead her across it, but after that she didn't have any problems with the yellow lines. Donnie babysat Lori's new boxer puppy, Chase, while we were riding. Chase is a doll, 6 weeks old and very cute. Donnie took pix at the beginning and end of the ride, then while we were letting the horses cool their feet in the New River. Areion loved the river and had a great time splashing in it until a boat when by and suddenly there were waves splashing her legs. The river was attacking back! She settled down after the waves went away and got back into the river again. Ivan went into the river, but not as far as Areion, and didn't splash around like she did. Ride begins on New River Trail End of trail ride In New River Splashing Areion Waves freak Areion Killer waves She did get back into the river once those waves died down.... | |

| Whew! Woke up a little earlier than I intended, but I got more done. The HUGE brush pile that I've been whittling away at for the last couple of weeks (with my good neighbor's help) is finally GONE! It was a long day of raking and burning. Now off to the hotel for pizza. | |

| SUNNY: I was just wondering what you were up to. Sounds nice to have the pool all to yourself in the heat of the year! Happy birthday to your granddaughter! ELLEN: So how was the pizza? Today is diet day, so pizza sounds especially good... RICK: I enjoyed the doggy video with the cat who stole the show! Did you watch the one where he rides on a skateboard? Really a good one! Nice day here, 77 degrees and sunny. | |
