Girls are all back in.......horses are fed & groomed.  (Well, mud is scraped off, feet picked & clean).  Now we're going to play Mexican Train while the guys coach the game.  It does seem to be heating up.

By the way.....who is Katy Perry?  I'm way lost on current music artists............
Oh gads, is there some confusion or is it me?  This stinks as far as I can see..............
my friend thinks it's great.  There ya go.  I'm simply out of touch.

My other friend just turned on Puppy Bowl.  I've never heard of that one....this is really cute.
O K..............."Train" starting.........Bye

We were playing Mexican Train but all got dropped when the game got hot.
Holy cow, what a finish!

I could care less about the teams, but that was some real football.  WOOHOO!

Friends just left..............on to next year!!!

Anyhow, CB, Mexican Train is a game of dominos of sorts...........very simple,  so you can talk, laugh, watch TV etc and play the game at the same time.  There are sev varieties, we played chicken leg.

Graymare, ask the kids next door who Katy Perry is. Very Happy I'll bet they can tell you all about her.

The game wound up being a close game. All the coaches at Graymare's house were probably yelling at the TV big time, depending on who they wanted to win it. I was staying with the little girls next door while Mommy and Daddy went out on the snowmobile for a while. They kept me fairly busy during the first half, but bedtime let me see the second half in peace. LOL

We now have well over a foot of snow. Not really sure how much exactly, but it's way up over my knees. It's been snowing for 24 hours straight with another 4 to 6 hours to go.

I guess I am out of touch, too. I don't know who Katy Perry is or what puppy bowls or Mexican trains are.... Rolling Eyes I hope everyone's favorite team won! (Who was playing? Laughing ).

Donnie and I coughed and sneezed our way thru two episodes of Stargate SG 1 while you all Super bowled this evening. We are in the midst of the fourth season of 10. It should take us awhile. Meanwhile, the new tv we have decided to get has dropped about $300 since Christmas! If we wait long enough, it will be free! ROFL (waiting, waiting...)

Donnie's cat, Mira, is making a remarkable recovery! Around New year's eve, I was sure she would be going to kitty heaven. She is now growing her hair back, eating everything in sight, and is very alert...to the point of escaping her enclosure and cruising around the house. Donnie worked hard to get her well and his efforts are being rewarded! He got her at the Hardee's parking lot 11 years ago and really loves her. I am so glad she is recovering.

I know I'm repeating myself, but I have the BEST neighbors.  18 inches of snow over the last couple of days; car completely surrounded by and covered with snow.  Travis brought the quad with the blade on it and moved a lot of the snow from in front of the car.  (I back it into the drive.)  He asked for my keys, started the car, let it warm up, drove it to another parking place, then came back with the quad and completely cleared my driveway, and brought the car back.  He came back a few minutes later with the snowblower to finish the job.  All that for a few hours of babysitting on my part.
At the moment, the temperature is only about 15 degrees, but the sun is shining brightly and putting out a lot of warmth.  The blue sky behind the tall trees with snow on them is beautiful.  I tried to get a few pictures, but didn't get anything worth sharing.

I'm glad to hear about Mira too, and like Graymare....  11 YEARS?!  Wow!  Seems like only a year or two ago.

ELLEN
You DO have the best neighbors! I bet they appreciate you, too. Having someone to babysit so they could get away together for a little while was probably precious to them and well worth shoveling your parking area!
Your snow sounds horrid, though. No

Well I had a rough day. I spent about seven hours outside in increasingly cold windy weather. Just as I was finishing the barn around noon, Donnie came down to help a little. He asked where all the blood came from. I hadn't even noticed it. Turns out, Daisy had ripped her left nostril pretty bad. We never did figure out what she got cut on. We called the vets at VA Tech and two vets plus two senior students showed up pretty fast. They were there a couple of hours and stitched Daisy's nose very neatly. Daisy was so good during the entire time. I think sometimes horses know when you are trying to help them. They gave her minimal sedation and after awhile she would be looking at them alertly while they worked. They would give her a smidge more and she would drift back off. She never struggled at all. They did nerve blocks on her nose and said it would feel like we do at the dentist. She got seven stitches. She is in Kazi's stall tonight with plenty of loose hay to keep her busy. No slow feeders for her until the stitches are out. She will enjoy that aspect of the experience.

By the time the vets left, the temps had dropped at least 10 degrees and what I put on for 40 degrees was inadequate for the then howling winds and 30 degrees. I just about froze. I finally got back into the house at 5 pm. We put blankets on the horses because we are going to have single digit windchills tonight.

GRAYMARE
Yep, Donnie brought Mira home from Hardees the winter after he bought his 2003 truck. She had apparently lived off food people gave her there for several weeks. They said no one could catch her, but Donnie walked right up to her and picked her up. I think she must have been waiting for him. They are a 'couple' Laughing .

GRAYMARE
So far, so good!  Daisy has a little bit of dried goo on part of the stitches, but no puffiness or redness this evening.  The vet said the big sign of tissue dying would come at 5 days out, which will be on Friday.  She could end up with a little notch in her nostril if that happens.  Considering the big notch she would have had with no stitches, even that wouldn't be quite as bad.  Daisy and Kazi get their feet worked on next week and Daisy will be checked then.  Daisy has been a good patient so far.  She hates the taste of Bute, but hasn't fought against having it squirted in her mouth.  Only one more day of doing that.  I will try to remember to take a photo of her tomorrow.

Lori is coming tomorrow for lessons.  I hope my bones cooperate!!  I can still feel some ouchiness in my right hip joint.  The weather promises to be nice, mid50s!  I hate to miss a good riding day.  I probably won't ride Areion yet.  Her width was the last straw for my hip last time.  I need to build some muscle strength to ride her.

Donnie is going back to work tomorrow.  He is still ikky, but better.

What a great photo of him! I had forgotten what a pretty chestnut color he is. I still want to call him Atticus, love that name!

BTW
I heard on NPR today (my barn cleaning entertainment), that a lost book by Harper Lee who wrote To Kill a Mockingbird was found and will be published! It is a sequel, but was actually written first. It has several of the same characters and takes place when Scout is an adult. Can't wait to read it! It is called "Go set a Watchman" and will be out in July. wavy

Isaiah is such a nice big boy. I love the expression on his face.

Ark, I heard about that book too. They were saying she actually wrote this one before "Mockingbird", but an editor thought it would be better if Scout was a little girl. So, she wrote "Mockingbird", and this new one is finally being published after being written so many years ago. That, in itself, is an interesting story.

Five of us went to the hotel to celebrate a 73rd birthday. While we were inside, it started snowing again and we have a couple more inches, so far. Just what we needed. yeah right But, it was a good evening anyway. Smile

And remember my truck just got worked on? well its making same noise again....the mechanics will look see on the 12th, but right now I am not a happy camper....

Just made our room resevation for kyles boot camp graduation....here's hoping truck doesn't cost a fortune to fix.....we havnt been to sc other than driving thru when hubby was driving big rig , since 1993 when we went for the heart fund ride at myrtle beach, which we helped to start up many years ago...I want to go back one more time before I hang up my spurs...but not this year. I will be content to check out some local trails closer to us.

Well that's our exciting day...going to watch tv and probably fall asleep in our recliners...seems we sleep in them more than our bed

GM, he,s pretty boy.

ARK, hope daisy and donnie get well fast.

Oh ARK...........can't wait for the book..........

Glad you had fun ELLEN...........you are prob glad to be home and watching from the inside.

I loved the name Atticus, also, and many times slip and say that............daughter chose Isaiah to go with Elijah.  When they were both little I called each of them Buzzie and if you call that they both come trotting up.  Funny.  They both really trot up as they simply hear a voice, LOL.

This is just from my heart...............

Buy a horse at a sale.................mare is pregnant, noone knows.  Foal born is termed bastard so named an honorable Atticus Finch.  Colt is broke and sold, sadly.  2 1/2 years later colt comes home and re named Isaiah, in late Oct or Nov, 2014.

In February, 2015, announcement made there is a second book by Harper Lee
that will be published in July that was written in the 50's and set aside, a sequel to To Kill A Mockingbird, even tho it was written first.  The title of the book is Go Set A Watchman.  It's from the Bible, Isaiah 21:6 "For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth".

I happened to take that picture yesterday and read the info on Go Set A Watchman
just now.  It will take a bit of cogitating to believe this.  I'll be first in line for the book.

Just another little miracle in my path called life.

God bless.
