Welcome to March 2016!

It feels like spring here today in Virginia, but that won't last long. It is supposed to snow an inch or two on Friday, then warm back up. We've had three days in a row of sunshine and 60 degrees and warmer! We are so spoiled already. Tomorrow it will be cold....sigh....Donnie picked up a load of hay for us during his lunch time, the hay guy is sick and couldn't do it. The mud is pretty much dried up, so we had to get some hay in before the next rain, which will be tonight.

CB:
Good luck to your two horses! I hope it works out for them, and you. Horses are a lot of work, that is for sure, but I hope to be like that 101 year old cowgirl and keep on riding for a very long time!! I hope to outlive my horses, but it will be difficult. When Areion is 30 years old, I will be 85. I can barely believe that.

My horses are starting to shed out, they must think spring is coming.

We did our civic duty this morning and voted in the primary elections. No line there, we walked straight in.

You're right ARK, how can it be March 1st?

ROSE, please drop in and let us know if you're OK...........still praying for you.

Only Tank and Cinnamon r going to the trainers lesson program. he will be breaking Daisie for me and harry has rocky. we will see how it all goes....whether we keep any or not.....I'd like to keep riding if DAISIE IS CALM.

Well harry worked on the other bathroom floor today and I did absolutely nuthin cept feed the dogs. speaking of dogs, I had bluey spayed, and I found her together with with Beans....I mean together. if she didn't get spayed heads will roll.....we didn't fix beans as he is pretty old and he has cancer and he is on limited time....everyone else is fixed, or so I thought. Neutral

Tomorrow have doc appt, and we r waiting to hear if house will finance VA or not...it appraised 3000 higher than a year ago tho....

Happy March....In like a lamb out like a lion. It was a lamb here until last night then the lion roared in with winds, it blew our garbage can container around. Luckily it smashed into a post and didn't go down over the hill.

CB: I know just what you feel about the quandary of riding or not riding. It's a tough call to make. I'm glad you and Harry are OK after the stove accident. Someday us hard headed older people will realize we are not 40 any longer. We do the same kind of crazy things.

GRAYMARE: What a sweet colt your Eli is.

ARK: You keep riding so us horseless people can live vicariously thru your adventures. Love that kitty photo. I stole it to pass on.

George & Nate finally moved the washer & dryer out of the cellar and onto the back porch. YEAH....no more trying to get down those horrible steps into the cellar. That'll save some wear and tear on my knees.

Off to take our disabled pastors van to the garage this morning for service.
Have a great windy day.

GRAYMARE
Eli is so pretty! Did he roll in the water? Areion loves playing in water, that is so fun to watch. Eli has such a pretty face! He has sure grown up, it feels like he was just born.

CB
It does get scarier about getting hurt riding as we get older. It is one reason I keep taking riding lessons, trying to lower the odds of being tossed off my hot horses. Time will tell if that strategy works....The good news is that Ivan has gotten so much better in the last year or so. Now I have to wait for Areion to do the same...

TRUDY
I am so sore today after riding Sunday and Monday!! This winter's weather has not been good for riding. The wind has been howling for almost a week, so I guess March has come in like a lion, despite the nice 60s. I hope this means March will go out like a lamb! Donnie keeps putting tarps over his hay equipment and the wind keeps blowing them off, no matter how he ties them on.

I ordered a nice two-step mounting block with rounded edges. I don't think Areion will be able to destroy it, it is much sturdier. We are so lucky she didn't get cut on the jagged edges after she flopped down on the old one. We had to find a way for Wizard, the old barncat, to get up on the table in the feedroom. He used the old step stool to get up there. Rolling Eyes

We saw the biggest brown eagle today, that bird was the hugest eagle I have ever seen. we stopped and watched. him fly away...oh my, what a wing span, I am in awe.
Went to doc appt, re xrayed, nuthin broken, yay.
Went to lunch at a mexican place and I had my glasses off to read the menu, and thought I saw dobermans running by the window, stuck my glasses on my nose and realized it was a herd of deer and amidst the cars a big beautiful buck with a stupendous rack came by, every guy in the place was hangin over tables along the window to see him! lots of "oh excuse me" were said and lots of laffing.
Was going to go to horse auction in closest town tonight, but....the wind started howling and we decided to stay home, don't want to catch a cold fore the kids get here.

Kicked back, relaxed.....

Trudy, glad you got your laundry upout of the basement and Ark, Glad you r riding, and Gm, glad you r playin with ELI, AND ellen hope u r enjoying the sunshine and beech, good to hear from you!

PostSubject: Checking In!   Wed Mar 02, 2016 11:24 pm

Just had a nice phone visit with GM!  So happy she called!  I am still healing, evidently the two multiple fractured ribs and the collar bone are going to require even more healing time.  Sweet Essie has been returned to the seller and yes, I cried when they loaded her..........this wasn't her fault!  Don't know if I'll get another horse but thankfully I can still get my horse fix with the Gypsys at the barn and I'm on mare watch duty now until the babies come.  I haven't gone back to my petsitting the 11 dogs yet, I'm really afraid one of the big babies will accidentally knock me down and I sure don't want that.  CB, I am sure glad you don't live close, you and Harry might rub off on me..............oh my, I couldn't survive!  Heal quickly my friend.  GM, I think I might need to find a "Faith" type horse if I'm ever to ride again!  Eli is so darn cute in the water pic!  ARK, for goodness sake, you be super careful!  ELLEN, you enjoy that sunshine and warmth!  Spring like weather is supposed to be here next week, fingers crossed!  Will try to keep up better, promise!  ((((ALL))))

Rose, it is so great to see you back again! I'm so sorry that Essie didn't work out for you. I hope you finish healing really fast.

I got word from home that the power company was trimming trees along the lines. Neighbor Travis sent me pictures of my butchered sassafras trees. Those poor trees just about recover and here they come again to mess them up. I am not sure how much more they can take.

Well, phooey ELLEN...............so are the trees about wiped out?
Hmmmmm. The powers that be never cease to amaze me...........I saw on the news it's REALLY cold there.............enjoy Texas.

CB, glad you & HARRY are up & at it and doing fine.

So good to know you're doing better ROSE. You will so enjoy the new foals
at your horse farm there.............oh boy, they light up your life.

TRUDY, I'm sure you like your laundry room upstairs now........I grew up in a house where the laundry was downstairs.............

ARK, spring is coming...........hang in there.

I don't think the trees are done for yet, but they are definitely out of balance with the weight of them leaning towards the house. IF they do what they've done before, they'll come back and add branches on the side that was cut. I happen to think that sassafras trees are really interesting because they have four different leaf shapes. I don't want to lose them.

This morning, it is 27 degrees and snowing at my house, but it won't last long because the temperatures are coming up a lot over the next couple of days and will be in the 60s next week.

Hey, have you guys seen the news clip of the Border Collie in Michigan whose job it is is to chase birds off the airport runway? It's suited up with goggles to protect it's eyes from the sun and big ear protectors for noise reduction and a harness to be lifted into a truck at the end of the run. Pretty cool.

I'm following the FLDS trial re Colorado City/Hilldale restricting those that aren't of their faith to obtain city utilities.....the leader of that faith, Warren Jeffs is in prison in TX, still the prophet leader of the sect. Wow, the testimonies on both sides have been facinating. Ending arguments are over.
The jury is out. We (the blah blahs) took the light rail down town twice to sit in court. One thing that really is amazing is how beautiful the women have their hair. Each female in a family has the same color dress and hair-do. From a distance the hair looks the same but it's not. That really intrigued me. I'm guessing it will be a Sundance movie festival documentary at some point in time.

Back out to the horses............weeds are done for this week, tanks are scrubbed, horses are brushed..............LOL

I saw the BC that works at the airport. I've seen a couple of other dogs that do the same thing.

I haven't seen anything about that trial. Explain a little more, please.

Good morning all. AACCKKKKK we have SNOW...not much probably an inch but still accckkkkk.

GRAYMARE; There are a lot of so called "religions" out there. It amazes me how easily people can be control to follow such insane rules and regulations. Our government does the same crazy stuff. You HAVE to buy this, you CAN'T buy that and it's getting worse. God help us.

ROSE: Good to see you posting. So sorry that Essie didn't work out for you. Prayers for a quick healing.

ARK: Spring is coming and you will be getting lots of saddle time. Ivan sure is turning into a great horse for you.

ELLEN: Our crazy township does the same stuff to everyone's trees. They ruin the trees with their mowers.

We spent the day passing out donation forms to the local businesses for our Military Order of the Purple Heart state convention that our chapter is hosting in June. I was surprised at the positive reactions we received. People from all over the state will be coming to Lewisburg for the convention. Next week we will back at it.

Going out to dinner tonight to celebrate with our friend Jill, it's her birthday.

Sweet dreams foopland!

Going off to auction in the morning....getting out og house......the heating pad has become my shoulders closest friend....

Hubby did the sub floor in bathroom and laid flooring down. another room done! we should be closing next week on our loan....yehawwwww! we will continue fixing up little bit here bit there.....we need to rescreen the screen door on front, and rescreen and paint the back porch and window sills.....summer projects and then finish the flooring in kitchen, bedrooms and tv room. later. hubby also wants to build more of a barn and make his workshop bigger. we do most of our projects ourselves so takes time. I'm mostly a holder and gofer and painter type helper.

Well what's everyone else up to?

The inch of snow we had yesterday morning is all gone. Hopefully that will be the last of it!!!!! We may get 70° this week..... sunny I rode two days last week and was so sore I could barely walk. I am so out of shape. The great thing is, that will be the worst soreness of the season since I will be riding more often now. Lori is coming Monday for lessons.

CB
I don't know how you and Harry get so much done on your house with your achy breaky joints! wavy I need to import you here to finish my house. Very Happy Or at least your energy.....

ELLEN
So what are you doing? Vacation report time!

GRAYMARE
I haven't heard of that trial, but it does sound strange. Let me know when the movie comes out! Very Happy

We are off to our weekly trip to Tractor Supply.

We aren't doing much that is exciting, but are spending a lot of time out on the patio in the sun. JoAnna refinished one of those heavy foam flower pots. It looks better than it ever did before. Today, we are hitting Olive Garden for lunch. It's just nice to be here in the warm weather with my best friend.

Busy day yesterday. Our neighbor gave us 2 cabinets that he longer wanted. We spent the day getting them ready to paint so we can put them in the new laundry room. Lots of work, George had to make tops for them & do some minor repairs, after church today we will paint them. .My laundry room AKA the back porch will be finished. YEAH

ARK: Our snow melted away quickly also, I went to the grocery store and when I came out it had all melted, I wasn't in there that long either. That's my kind of snow. We are having some 60 degree days & one day in the 70's this week also. WOO HOO spring time is arriving.

CB: You guys sound like us, always doing some major house stuff. Never a dull moment around here. We have 3 projects going at the same time right now. No time to sit and feel sorry for our aches and pains gotta keep moving.

ELLEN: Enjoy the warm weather and make sure you bring it back home with you.

Have a blessed Sunday everyone.

Trudy, you said it. we haven't any kids closeby, and really kyle was our only helper in idaho, everyone is ssoooo busy. here there are some young men here who will do some jobs, and we have used them once, my brother uses them a lot....but they do charge a good rate, but even that on a fixed income is sometimes hard to part with...so it will take us longer and lots more slowly moving, but we muddle thru.
Ark, oh we hurt good.....but by us doing the work, it gets done to hubbys expectations and I supervise, and it allows us that lil extra in our pockets to go to auctions and take care of the critters....we can break a lot and rest....but eventually it gets done. I don't know about others who r retired but when your inome gets shot in half it does have a great awakening factor! Makes ya think i can still do this no matter how many achie breakies. I am thankful for what we get, keeps us afloat and we r able to have some fun....but those great paycheck days r gone.....but as long as we can enjoy things, travel on a shoestring see the kids....we r happy to keep ploddin along doing the things we can do. harry rode yesterday bareback.....I asked him what bee buzzed up his a$$? His knee is actually feeling better since his fall out the back of truck, he finally got those last ligaments to stretch that pt didn't get it to do. lol
And sometimes I think at bedtime, we rnt doing that job again....wow I hurt!. hot shower and tylenol gets us thru. we rnt on any super pain prescriptions...we just don't think we r as old and in as bad shape as we r and we just keep on keepin on as Grram always said.
Ellen, I'm so enjoying this warm weather, just a tshirt aaand I was thinking time to unpack the tan tops!
Todays agenda is to wash some walls and brush the horses. daisie aka sandi walked on a lead yesterday so pretty for me...she is really bonding with us. but when I stopped working with her, took off halter, she turned and walked away and then took off running and bucking! at least wernt ferocious bucks, and not right back to back....I'm thinking in terms "would I be able to stay or not" hopefully after trainer gets done she won't do that! we have just been going slowly with her, I leaned over her back standing on a stool and she didn't seem to mind at all...she picks up her feet stands for farrier now, leads, backs, will stand without tying in pasture for wormings and brushings, will load now, stands tied....we have come a long way baby.....she is so laid back and snuzzles with us, took awhile....but we r ready for next step I think.
Ok that's my book for the day! everyone enjoy spring, have fun.

CB, TL & I work the same way at the same speed you & Harry do.........we just keep moseying along doing chores, maintenance and projects simply taking longer amounts of time to complete. Keeps us happy & busy. AND, so far, Eli is an easy project. We do not take meds, either......that's not a bit good for people.
Hey, we're vertical and moving well. Slow & steady gets R done.

Gm, I do take bp and diabetes meds, but no pain control meds....wish I didn't need the others either.....but oh well.....

Hubby has one more bracket to hang shower curtain rod and that bathroom will be done for now. later we will change the tub to a walk in shower and new sink. later....

We are going to branson on wednesday to listen to one of those vacation deals, not buying, but if they want to give me free tickets for us for a show, we will go and listen. we picked the amazing pet show, thought the girls would like to see it, and we will see dixie stampede show in branson, and I got free tickets for 4 adults I won eating dinner out I signed an entry to win....no catch on this one....so we just have to pay for girls to get into silver dollar city amusement park. busy week, hope my legs hold up! gads its he!! to get old.

Friday we will go to the fort and get our eye exams, fill prescription, and get groceries....
Also have rain headed our way, up to 4 inches in a couple of days....

Sweet dreams y'all
