CB, I'm glad you'll have some time to play with little Harper. That will be fun.

I did something REALLY COOL this morning. I took off on the jet ski about 9:00. I was the only thing moving on the five lakes I went through. There wasn't any wind, so the lake was flat. It was fun to blast across the big lake at 50 mph all by myself.

CB
How are you and Harry doing? Hopefully things have calmed down a bit. How is your puppy doing?

RICK
I enjoyed your trip! Thanks for posting it, it was a fun trip! So what are you doing now?

GRAYMARE
How's things? I hope it has cooled off. We have your heatwave now. I cancelled my riding lesson for tomorrow, it is going into the 90s and very humid. My horses are spending the heat of the day in the barn under the fans.

Everyone stay cool!

Ark, a couple of weeks ago, Graymare came to this site and was greeted with a dire warning about a virus in her computer. She won't come back until she gets her computer cleaned out.
I got that message one day, but only once. I ignored it and haven't seen it since.

CB, here's an idea. Do you have a second hand shop around there? What doesn't sell at a garage or yard sale you can take to a second hand shop where they will buy all the stuff. I did that after a garage sale last year. I decided I was never doing a garage sale ever again. I'll just load everything up that I need to get rid of and haul it to the shop, and probably get almost as much as it would have brought in a yard sale.

ARK...you asked and the answer is "I'm doing a lot of nothing". Well, we've had just enough late afternoon / evening thunder showers and warm/hot days that grass is growing rapidly. If I could stand it, it would be a bit over 4 hours non-stop mowing to do it all at one time ... That's cutting 60 inch swath

I have gotten that warning, too. Like CB said, they were trying to sell a virus protection. I ignore it, too. I never download anything like that unless the household computer geek say to do it. Very Happy

CB
Yep, I have been telling Areion what a good horsey she is all week! Laughing It has been so hot here, she and Ivan haven't had to earn their living since she got home. The others just coast thru life anyway. Very Happy
I need to go thru my garage, aka: the dumping ground, and sell, give away or trash most of the contents. My sister, Vicki, just cleaned out her basement and found a comic book I bought in 1967 in a box. We are all packrats....

I have another nibble for my pony cart. If I got serious about it, I could probably sell that fairly easy. One thing out of the garage!

RICK
Wildflowers and trees..... Very Happy No horse, don't need grass! flower

Everyone stay cool!! sunny

Rick, I only have a few hundred square feet of yard. I wanted to mow it this morning before it got hot. I thought maybe 9:00 would be soon enough. It wasn't. 80 degrees with 90% humidity.

How bout this July heat wave? WOW it has been so miserable here in PA. Not a drop of rain and lots of sun. Our grass is brown and crunchy to walk on and the garden is trying to die even though we are watering almost every day. We have been getting the veggies picked as soon as they look mature, but the plants are showing stress and no rain in sight.

Not much going on other than sweating and whining about the weather. ACe & I are walking at 6 AM before the heat gets started.

Stay safe in the heat everyone.

TRUDY
The heat is pretty much ferocious! sunny   My weather app says it is going to be 95° here today. affraid   Not my cup of tea.....

Our grass is still green from thunderstorms last week, but I don't know how much longer that will be so.  Yesterday we spent the heat of the day at the local movie theatre watching the new Star Trek movie.  We liked it!  Today we may go see Ghostbusters.

My horses are staying in the shade as much as they can.  Daisy and the ponies have fans they can get to, but don't always take advantage of them.  The Arab horses seem to withstand the heat the best, Kazi especially.  Her white hair may keep her a little cooler that Ivan and Areion with their more grey hair.

Stay cool, folks!

It's been pretty hot and humid here too. My AC has been getting a workout this year. Most years, it is used 3 or 4 days a year. It's been on for most of a week, so far. I think we have a few more days of this before it moderates a little bit.
The 80s will seem like a cold front.
We have had enough rain in the last couple of weeks to keep the grass green. In June it was pretty dry, but we've had several of the summer thunderstorms.
Many people are spending a LOT of time in the water. Since our lake has the clearest, cleanest water, many people anchor on this lake and swim from their boats and pontoons.

This next week it is spose to rain every day and be cooler, I can do cooler! Horses get hosed off every afternoon, they love it. Our yardsale was closed today and we made more today than yesterday. One more weekend and then we haul things to an auction house. Harry's sis and nephew are coming down first week of August and then we Go play
With harper for ten days, and then back to finish packing.....omy....time is going fast.

ELLEN
I'm still in a heatwave, but it is a bit better today. There is a line of thunderstorms coming this afternoon, so maybe it will cool off. Last Saturday it was 98° affraid . It has dropped a little each day since.

I am still running back and forth twice a week for physical therapy in Blacksburg. This week, it finally has started feeling better. Of course, I haven't ridden in 2 weeks, so that may change back. Rolling Eyes My doctor has given the PT two more weeks, then we'll evaluate and see if more drastic measures will be taken.

Areion has been in raging heat this week, first time she has been a maniac about it. I had to separate her from Ivan for his safety. Poor Ivan lives with 3 mares all bigger than him, and sometimes plain crazy. Gotta feel sorry for him sometimes. The mares go from being his best friends, to wanting to wipe him off the face of the earth. I wonder what it would cost to spay a mare? If this keeps up, I may save my pennies for it....

I'm still around. Trying to pick the veggies that are surviving the dreadful non stop heat and get them in the freezer before the lack of rain kills off the plants. We did get a little rain and the beans and zucchini perked right up. Everything else is showing signs of extreme stress even with us watering every day with rain water we collected. It's just not the same as a soaking rain from above.

We are making pickles today..

Here's a sign of just how hot it has been. Our trash guy showed up got out of his truck and was wearing cut off jeans, flip flops and no shirt. WHATTTTTTTTT...Good thing he is a younger, nice looking guy. It made me smile. Wink I thought about taking his photo but he was too quick.

It took me back to the guy we had farming the place in 93. He would ride around on his tractor in short shorts and no shirt, but he weighed about 400 pounds and it looked like he was buck naked. affraid LOL LOL

It's been pretty hot here, but we've had enough rain to keep things green.

Trudy, you reminded me of one of the guys who was working here when I was redoing this place. He worked for the concrete guy. He was on the heavy side, and his pants hung rather low and showed part of his 'crack'. I took a picture of him. My cousin saw the picture and commented that the photo could be used as advertisement. "This is the only crack you'll find in our concrete." ROFL

ELLEN and TRUDY
hysterical Those are very visual descriptions! hysterical I like the concrete ad idea! Very Happy

Last night it got dark before I remembered to close up the hens' house and roosters' cage. I grabbed an umbrella off the porch because it had started sprinkling. Before I could get the umbrella opened, the rain got serious. I was almost to the bird dome and discovered the umbrella had 2 broken spokes and wasn't much help. The wind picked up and beat my head with the flapping part of the umbrella. I got to the roosters' cage, which is just under the side roof of the chicken house and the wind shifted, the umbrella flew off to the side and rain off the roof poured onto my head as horizontal sheets of rain hit me from the side. It was very cold rain...I could not get the latch hooked and finally gave up wrestling the umbrella so I could use both hands. The roosters sat on their nice dry perches looking at me while only my socks inside my boots were dry for me. Then I had to get to the chicken house, wrestle the stuck door closed, and make my way back to the house. I felt like I had gone thru a carwash without my car.

Ark, I see a new umbrella in your near future. Laughing I'd suggest one of those golf umbrellas that has the flaps that allow the wind to go through the top. I had one of those that I really liked, 6 feet wide. It got lost in the process of a garage sale, and haven't seen one I like to replace it.
