Here where I am, we will get about 85% of total eclipse. I'll try to get a couple of pictures, but mostly, I'll be content to watch it on TV.

I heard of places that are making big money renting out places to stay for the big event. One guy was renting out fully finished and furnished containers for $3500 a night. That would be about 160 square feet of space. I suppose if you were only there for one night, it would be sufficient. But $3500????!!!!!

Just hunker down, CB. It will all be over by Monday night. You should be in almost the direct path, so maybe you can offer campsites for big bucks.

A younger cousin and his wife and three kids came yesterday and stayed until today. They have one 17 year old girl, a 15 year old boy, and a 12 year old boy. They are all big eaters. Last night they wiped out most of three slabs of ribs, corn on the cob, and made a big dent in a gallon of homemade ice cream. This morning, they cleaned up a pretty good sized batch of biscuits and gravy, and finished off the ice cream.
We all went out in the boat and jet ski yesterday afternoon. They have a good boat, so it was a good ride. Today we spent a couple of hours swimming.
It was a good weekend.

PostSubject: Solar Eclipse Day!!   Mon Aug 21, 2017 9:45 am

sunny sunny sunny sunny sunny sunny sunny

Donnie and I are in Pigeon Forge, TN at a Howard Johnson's. We went to Dixie Stampede last night. What a good show! It was a lot of fun and the dinner was very nice. You don't go away hungry, that's for sure. The traffic getting here, down I-81, was bumper to bumper and fairly slow...and we stopped a few times. That interstate is busy on a normal day, but we never saw this kind of traffic on a Sunday afternoon.

Today we are going about an hour south to Greenback, TN, for the total eclipse. There is a nice lake there, Teleco Lake, that has a bunch of campgrounds. There should be a place for us to park for a few hours. We'll go home this afternoon.

Pigeon Forge is a HUGE tourist trap! Laughing There is a very large King Kong hanging onto the side of a building....Very funny. Very Happy I haven't been here in at least 25 years. Things have gotten busier....

Catch you tonight with an eclipse report! sunny

I'm in the mountains today and in AZ we only have a partial eclipse. It runs from 9:30A to about 11. Right now it's sunny here but clouds are predicted. I'm going to be inside
as I don't have glasses. I have to watch on TV. ARK, we're waiting for your report
from your viewpoint. Have fun.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Quite a few years ago, there was a partial eclipse.  We had the kids at school make a little hole in a piece of paper.  By holding the paper with the hole above another paper on the ground.  Look at the paper on the ground and you can see the progression of the eclipse.
It will begin here just before 1:00 EST, but will only be about 85% of total.  I was thinking about taking some pictures, with a filter on my camera, but then decided that there will be MILLIONS of pictures to look at.  In addition, there is a rain storm on the far side of Illinois that could get here about the same time.

A few hours later: The eclipse has come and gone here. It got a little bit darker here and the temperature did drop about 10 degrees for a little while.

Ours wasnt total, it got semi dark, breeze came up, thin crescent left at bottom, moved up as a rim on the right and gone in 1 hr 20 minutes.  Neat to see.

We are home!  It was quite a trip!  We had 2 1/2 minutes of totality.  The picture above was taken with Donnie's phone of the telescope's display during the total eclipse.   It was an eerie feeling when the sky suddenly got dark and you could see Venus.  You could look at the sun with the naked eye during totality, and it looked unreal.  We found a nice place next to a lake that had a few people, but not many.  It was really a wonderful experience.  We had clear skies and an incredible view.  It was worth the trip.

The journey home wasn't too fun, though.  It was crawling bumper to bumper traffic for 250 miles.   It looked like the country was running from a natural disaster.  It took us almost 8 hours to get home from a 4 1/2 hour away place.  We have never seen that kind of traffic, especially on a non holiday.  We didn't see any accidents, though, the traffic was so slow, it was probably safer.

But it was still worth it!  Very Happy

I have better pix I will try to post tomorrow......Midnight now... Sleep

Things have been crazy here. A woman who belong to our Barnabas group passed away, (went to the viewing last night and made a desert for the funeral dinner today that I can't attend) my brother-in-law passed away back in Pittsburgh (no great loss there, not going back for the funeral), my friend Ashely had to have a heart cat yesterday. She is home and resting. Her Lupus is attacking her heart now.

Makes my tooth issue seem so small. My operation is this afternoon. Life puts stuff in perspective doesn't it? I'm getting my hair cut this morning. One less thing to fuss over for the next few days. I'm trying not to freak myself out too much this morning.

That's been my week, plus the new team leader for my church group told me she can't attend any of the meetings, she has to work. My question is "why take a position if you can't do the job"? Oh well, it will work out. I'll schedule speakers for the group & keep it running.

This morning feels like fall. It's overcast and only about 65°, and won't get much more than that. Colder nights and cooler days means that swimming time is nearly over.

A cousin and two of her friends are coming for the weekend, so we'll borrow a boat and/or a pontoon and go cruise the lakes. They are all early risers, so we'll probably go to boat-in church on Sunday and then have brunch on Wawasee. I'm hoping they still have the woody parade. That is a gathering of all the people who have the beautiful old wooden inboard Chris Craft boats. Those old boats are just gorgeous, and have a sound that even other inboards can't duplicate.
All that means that I need to get busy and clean some floors and windows today and tomorrow. And make ice cream. These three women are good cooks but have decided they don't want to cook this weekend, and are going to eat sandwiches here, and eat out in the evenings. I might do breakfast things for them. Don't want them to think I don't do anything. Very Happy

I made it thru the surgery. It was NOT a piece of cake at all unlike what the Endodontist specialist said it was going to be, 2 hours later and about 10 shots, 8 stitches in the roof on my mouth and he was finished. OUCH

Left his office and went to Perkins so George could get supper, as I sat there with nothing to eat or drink, the manager rushed over to see why I hadn't gotten my order yet? LOL I went into the restroom and there was a huge spot of blood on my forehead. I can only imagine what people were thinking. That poor woman, holding the side of her face, blood on her forehead and not getting a thing to eat. Bet they thought "what a monster she is married to." LOL

I did get some sleep last night, today it hurts pretty bad, but not as bad as I imagined it was going to hurt. I'm eating all soft food that doesn't need chewed for a couple of days. Glad it is over with. Next week the stitches come out then the tooth gets a new filling.

Prayers going up for the people of Texas and the storm. My cousin Lee lives in Conroe TX, praying he and his wife are doing the right thing and getting the heck outta there.

I had 7 fillings, two caverns, 5 tiny....but mouth is still sore....yikes, we make a pair, huh?
I throw up so much, it has ruined my enamel. Last endiscopy i had, dr stretched esopagus and spincters a bit so i dont get as sick when food  gets stuck, maybe that will help. Golden years really suck, y'all.

Happy Birthday, Donnie.

I once heard someone say, 'the only thing golden about these years is urine.'

It's a gorgeous afternoon. Early fall is here, like it or not. The summer seemed too short this year.

ELLEN
Okay, that made me laugh ROFL .
Donnie said thank you, and CB, for the happy birthday!

Yesterday was his birthday,  he went to work, got home and had cake.  That was about it for the day.  He considered his birthday to be the trip to see the eclipse on Sunday and Monday. He had a great time. Kroger made his cake, I put icing on it. It has a sun, his new degree, some stars, and his number of years all packed onto it, highlights from this year.  Here is the birthday boy and his cake:

TRUDY and CB:
Ouch, ouch, ouch!! affraid  I am so glad your procedures are done.  Wow, no wonder you were nervous about it.   Mushy food for you, for sure.  I hope you don't starve while healing up... No

CB:
Where are you now?  I have lost track if you are in Idaho or Texas.

GRAYMARE:
I really feel bad for John McCain.  I hope he beats the odds.

Our weekend will be filled with horsey feet.  Nearly everyone of the horses need a trim.  We ordered a manure spreader that has arrived at Tractor Supply, so we will be assembling that this weekend, too.  The weather is so nice and cool, and sunny.  It should be a good weekend for outdoor working here.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, DONNIE. AND MANY MORE!

Brother, so much for dental procedures. I'm glad it's done thus far. Trudy,
it sounds like you have a ways to go. I hope it works out for both you & CB.

ELLEN, you're out cruising.

No news up here. Nights are chilly at 46.

Bye for now. God bless.

Cousins and friends will be here soon. Cousin is a high energy person, so she'll keep things moving once she gets here.

GM, your night time temperatures are about the same as ours now. It was 44 last night, but will make it up to a lovely 75° today.
