Can you believe it is fall already? The summer just flew by. Our leaves are still green for the most part, but a few maples have started turning and some trees are losing their leaves despite us not having had a frost yet. Frost can wait as far as I am concerned! My dinner plate dahlia is really pretty right now, huge red flowers. I hate to see them go...
I have been busy all week. I went to lunch on Monday with my friend. That was nice. She turned 70 recently. I met her when she was 39 and I was 29. She and Donnie wanted me to have my Areion induced rib problem checked out, so I called yesterday and got into the doctor's office today. Strangely, as soon as I had an appointment, the rib didn't hurt as much. I needed to have my yearly blood test done anyway, and the rib did get me in faster. The doctor says it is not broken, the tendons and such around the rib were bruised. I will probably live. He said to ride more carefully . I am going to get a safety vest to wear riding, especially Areion. It is a long way down from her!
We finished our hay on Saturday and it looks good. We didn't get as much as we hoped, but every bit will help. Now I have to order the rest to do me until first cutting next year. I am exceedingly happy to be done hauling hay out of the field for the year!
Lori is coming tomorrow to ride Areion. I won't ride her until I get that vest, but probably will ride Ivan, at least to see how the rib reacts.
Welcome to October!

Ark, have you seen the inflatable vests? There is a small cord that is attached to the saddle. When it is jerked loose it instantly sets off a CO2 cartridge that blows it up before you hit the ground. The advantage is that is it flat and comfortable until you need it. The life jacket I use on the jetski or in the kayak is very similar. I chose for mine to be a manual release, but it would be easy enough to tie it to something so it would inflate if I fall off. I'm a strong swimmer, and I have discovered that there is only one thing good about being "fluffy". Fat floats. Some of the life jackets will inflate if a sensor gets wet. Last summer, I got a good laugh when Travis was looking at my 'new life jacket'. He'd never seen one like it, and not realizing that the cartridge is good for one use, pulled the cord. The surprised look on his face was worth the price of a new cartridge.

What r we watching.....
Well y'all know we have been looking in missouri for a place we can afford, where hay is good but cheap, and taxes r low and fairly close to my brother and some friends from.militarynalso live within an hour as do 5 of my cousins....we found one and will be moving and hoping we can sell here or rent with the oil boom going on. there is 40 acres of hay fields and trees, 2 ponds, small barn, chicken coop, goat barn, and a 3 bay machine shed and a small 3 bedroom sandstone house.....nice quiet 2 miles on a dirt road to a 2 lane blacktop road and 4 miles to a more traveled blacktop road, 7 miles from town. will need dome tlcc but I think we can do it. has mature shade treesnaround the house for shade and almost full basement to shelter any storms.
So all 3 of my girls moved and now we r...crazy.....
Sweet dreams

CB, you must like moving a lot better than I do. There's nothing about it that I consider to be fun. But, I wish you lots of happiness in your new home.
Yesterday, I was babysitting. Scarlett was singing along with "The Farmer in the Dell". Her not quite 3 year old ears hear things slightly differently. "The farmer takes the wiPe. The farmer takes the wipe. Hi ho the derio, the farmer takes the wipe." Then, at the end, "the cheese stands awonk......" It was hard to not laugh.

CB Good luck! I haven't moved in 14 years, but can't stand the thought of it.
RICK That was great!
ELLEN I bet she is a cutie! Who taught her those lyrics?
Rainy day here.

Ark, her mommy has an i-Pad that she's been using for more than a year and a half. There are lots of toddler games and youtube videos that have all the nursery rhymes, counting games, letter games, etc. She knows exactly how to get to the one she wants. The i-Pad doesn't care how many times she wants to hear the same one over and over again. Mommy and Daddy talk to her and teach her things all the time. We were out on the pontoon about a week ago. As we were coming back in, Daddy was asking her which house the various neighbors live in. She knew exactly which ones he was asking about. At this age, she has some but not all her "r"s and "l"s, so that makes some of her words - uh - interesting. And funny.

The "main" video may / maynot show, but scroll on down and see the dogs enjoying themselves in slow motion.

CB When do you expect to move? You are much more organized than me!
ELLEN The vests with air cartridges have to be attached to the saddle and you have to remember to unattach it before discounting or it inflates the vest. I would probably go through a lot of cartridges.... . I ordered a Tipperary ride lite vest. I am not sure if a winter coat will fit over it.
I wonder if that cartridge makes a sound when it goes off? Sounds spooks Ivan more than anything. That type of vest could be a problem if it went off unexpectedly. It took me 3 months to get him over the sound of Velcro. That would take a bunch of cartridges!

Ark, it does make a small sound, but not much. I'm glad you have one ordered that will help protect your ribs. Considering the position I usually landed when I fell off, I don't think they make protective gear for that.

Sunny - The colors here are so beautiful that I took several photos this week, and I've just tried to post some here for you but can't for the life of me remember how I did it last time. I saved the directions somebody kindly provided some time ago but they no longer work -- maybe because Image Shack now requires a paid subscription. Anybody help me -- again??

Beech, I don't like Image Shack either. That's why I usually just make an album with Picasa and post the link. I checked the gallery for this forum, but it says there is no more space available. So, back to an online album.
