Ark, I know it was perfectly awful when that truck crashed into the house, but you have a beautiful new window because of it.  "It's an ill wind........"  You will just love that window seat.
Did the guy's insurance do what they should have?

Rick, I did see that movie a long time ago. It was definitely a good movie.

Hi all,

ARK, your window looks great. I can relate to the missing stirrups thing. I try, emphasis on try, to put things away so when I need them I'll know right where to go. Unfortunately more times than not it's so long before I need what put away that I forget where I put it.

I spent the weekend putting things to bed and it's a good thing I did. Weather was perfect for it. The lawnmower, Farmall tractor and horse trailer are all put to bed in the barn for the winter except for taking the batteries out of the tractors. All the flowers are cut back and the bulbs are dug up and put to bed in the basement. I was able to scrub all the water buckets out and got most of the last of the tree limbs and other brush burnt up for the winter. Today is what I think of for common weather in Northern Indiana in October. Misty rain, cold, and damp blech.

I took yesterday off work to go to the Topeka carriage auction and then almost didn't go. One of my kitties hasn't been feeling well and I took him to the vet first thing in the morning. He wasn't eating and therefore losing weight. But he was cuddly as ever. Come to find out his kidneys were calcifying. I have never heard of this. He was not develping stones in the kidneys, the kidneys themselves were turning to stone. At least that's basically how the vet explained it. In any event, it was easy to see on the exrays that they weren't normal. In the end I had the vet put Chester to sleep and I brought him home and buried him. So after that I wasn't going to go to the sale. But when I tried to figure out what I would do for the rest of the day since I was off work I decided if I didn't go to the sale I would hang out at the house and probably not do a darn thing except dwell on Chester so I went. I'm glad I did. I had a very good time and ended up buying a used harness for Sophie to replace the one she outgrew and a nice wooden two wheel cart. I don't think it's technically an Meadowbrook cart, but very similar. So next spring we'll go back to the basics and have a refresher course on driving. I've already stashed in in storage for winter and then realized I didn't take a picture of it. So while my day started out pretty bad, it ended very nicely.

Really nice to see you INDY.  So sorry to read about Chester……………..

Gosh, your new driving cart sounds wonderful and spring should be a really great time for you.
Ha, you have too many toys now to keep track of so it's easy to see how you can lose track/sight of something.

The donkeys and the barn poster are great…………

CB, things are prob getting wild at your place getting ready for the next load………….take care and DO NOT get the flu!!!

ELLEN, well, maybe you could have a contest for leaf blowing and the job could get done quickly.

Indy, I'm so sorry about your kitty. That can definitely ruin one's day.

Next spring, we'll look forward to seeing the new cart and harness.

I was thinking about inviting all my cousins to a leaf removal party. They work, I cook. But, they have more leaves than I do so I don't think they'd come. ROFL
Over the last two years, I lost 5 trees and next door lost 3 to the Emerald Ash Bore, so there aren't quite as many leaves as in the past. I think Travis and his buddies will take down those dead trees this winter when the ice is on the lake. Makes clean up a lot easier, and he can have all the wood for his wood burning stove in his barn.

Can't wait to see the little girls' costumes for Halloween. I need to get some cookies made.

INDYAPP
I am so sorry about Chester, poor kitty.  I wonder what caused that?
I bet your new cart is great!  I bought Zippy' s cart from a lady who had it in her old barn.  It is a metal pony cart that was black and rusty from age.  You could still make out part of the manufacturer's name and "Ohio" in faded paint.  I have no idea how old it was, but it looked like a piece of junk.  We played $35 for it, fixed it up and painted it red.  We've had more fun with that cart, but after 20 years of hauling us in parades, I think Zippy is probably ready to retire.  I bet I can sell that cart for at least $35! Laughing

This evening is the first night in 28 years that we haven't had a goat in our barn.  I had to have Lightning, my 17 year old cashmere goat, put down today.  He was the last of my herd of cashmeres and Angoras, grandson of Tinkerbelle, my first goat.  He was a sweet old guy.  I won't be getting anymore goats.

That was the bad part of my day, much like INDYAPP's.  The better part was the riding lesson later in the day.

I rode Ivan with the Australian saddle.  We had it all adjusted with the safety stirrups on it.  I didn't like riding in it at all.  I couldn't post without hitting those poley things (the mouse ears on the front area of the saddle). I don't think it will work for me.  So I switched back to my regular English saddle and we had a fun lesson.  Lori rode Areion, who was sweet and well behaved, not like the rambunctious Areion she was all summer.  Hopefully she will keep this attitude!  She knows she gets a treat at the end of her lesson, and was even polite asking for it.  My little horse is growing up Very Happy .

Ark, maybe u could borrow a hornless tucker saddle and try it, we loved ours! and now they make hornless cordura saddles that are lightweight.....I love mine cuz I can throw it up on my 16 plus hand horse with ease and I got the one with the really high cantle soIit helps me stay where I'm spose to be when tank does his hard spook jumps.
Well back to the salt mines....pack pack pack.
Later taters

Sorry to hear about lightning...hugs to you. I will always have a goat as long as I have horses, it may be ol wives tale, but even when we had horses over the fence twice with them all having strangles our horses never got it. the tale goes goats will absorb the virus and it doesn't hurt them, but the horses don't catch it......anyone else heard this?

Rick, I did watch the Clydesdale accident. Almost didn't. That was amazing to see those big horses standing like statues until everything was sorted out. It was nice to know ahead of time that all of them were okay. I still cried when I saw that last horse stand up and walk away.

CB
I never heard that tale. Would be great if it were true! My goats were all related and connected with my fiber arts mania I went through for several years....lots of spinning and such. I loved them, but am now into my horsey phase. I am going to make Lightning's stall into a horse or pony stall. I will miss the goats, though.

I think I will ride Areion in my saddle, not Lori's, from now on. I usually ride Areion after her lesson with Lori, who likes her slick little English saddle. My synthetic saddle is not a slick and maybe will feel more secure. Plus Donnie owns that Aussie saddle or I would sell it in a blink! Laughing

RICK
That was an amazing video! I knew what was coming, but still gasped when those horses fell. Good horses! They must really trust their handlers. It would have only taken one panicked horse to cause horrendous damage.

I've heard all my life that having goats around was supposed to help keep horses healthy. I sort of guessed it was an old wives' tale, or maybe an old farmers' tale.

Well all I know is this....we were on base stables and had a goat in with our 4 horses , only the two end pens and the fronts of the paddocks were fixed where he couldn't get out but he could go thru in each of our pens, every horse out there caught strangles, one died, and our 4 never got it. and then we had own property horses were nose to nose with my neighbors horses who had it and ours never did. she lost a beautful stallion out of dream finder line....from bastard strangles. my daughter last year brought horse in and it came down with it, she raced over to my other daaughters, and stole one of her goats and her other 4 horses didn't catch it.....so its a truthful ol wives tale to me! I believe! goats in race barns for company or to absorb strangles? who knows for sure.

Well back to the nose to the grindstone.....

And then I have been offered a great dane from a huge bloodline that are huge dogs....question is will hubby kill me, divorce me, or......lol

Well, CRAP! It's snowing!
It won't amount to much since the air and ground are too warm for it to stick, but it's a perfectly miserable afternoon outside. Cricket the Cat has resumed his position in his favorite chair here at my house.

Trudy, did you have your Trunk or Treat outside last night? The weather was so awful last evening, they moved it inside the church. It was cold, blowing up white caps, raining, and even snowing a little bit.

ELLEN: We did have it outside, the weather was a little cold, but nothing that an extra layer couldn't combat. My fingers were getting cold around 8:30. We had a blast, so many kids...they were already lining up when we got there to set up at 5:30. I was worried about rain and all the stuffed animals, but we were blessed not a drop of rain or wind. It was a perfect night for Trunk or Treat. They served hot coffee, hot chocolate and donuts to us as we handed out the candy.

Today is a different story altogether rain, wind and even a little snow. BBBBRRRRRRRRRRR

I hope all the kids had a truck or treat place to go around here. We had a cold rain going on during prime trick or treating time. Today there is snow about 35 miles west of us, but so far we are still just getting more cold windy rainy miserable weather. tongue

Time to change the monthly tread. Can you believe it is November already? My poor dahlias are not fairing well. The last frost pretty much killed them off.
