The other lil mini has it full blown now. vet is still unclear....running high temp and coughing nasal discharge. ack.....we bleached everyhng again, even washed haters and leads, water and feed tubs, hubby has been outin heatg all panels with straight bleach.....only thing we can really giveis bute or banamine.....I'm upset, feel bad for lil minis but sure hope my horses escape it....I am always as careful as I can be...dwat!

I had a nice lunch with a friend today. Then toward evening, I rode Ivan for a few minutes. I am trying to stretch those riding muscles a bit more each ride. Getting on was painful, but that tight muscle quickly relaxed and I had a nice ride. We did more trotting this time. I tried a different saddle pad arrangement to see if lifting the back of the saddle a little would help get my feet more under me, and get me out of the chair position. I think it worked. Posting was a little easier, but I really didn't ride long enough for a fair test.

I posted and the cyber ghosts ate it! things r not going well.....I can't tell you how many times I have helped friends and seen animals at clinics and humane societies where I have worked thru the years, but I havnt drug stuff home becuz I use precautions. when I sold puppies I use to have folks stand on bleach carpet and use cleaner for hands before they could play with them. I use to strip on my porch and run in and shower, either washing my clothes or burn them if we had severe outbreaks and a tray with bleach on my porch for shoes.....
Chris has chester, cute lil sorrel and white mini in with a 40 inch mule. the sick mini is confined to my stock trailer. I said she should put the two sick ponies together and maybe the mule wouldn't come down with it....may help...may not. she said the mule will catch it so she isn't moving anyone. I told her to remove shoes at door, she won't, I told her to wash her cothes she wears out, she won't,,,,she says I'm being paranoid!
Hubby and I moved our horses into a back pasture, we were out until dark last night. I rescrubbed water and feed buckets cuz I kno that snot can be blown a long ways. we also straight bleached the panels we moved. harry comes in and strips and so do I, set our boots in bleach, shower, wash clothes. vet says baamine will help the swelling of mucus membranes, all of mine r on that. but when chris said we were carrying our paranoia too far hubby came unglued. Then she said she is afraid to stay with us any longer, harry said then pack up you r leaving....when she tried to say something, he said its final, pack. so that is how it is going....not well. she said the vet said it wasn't contagious?????????? and that her minis both had coggins and if they were sick it would have showed up so they didn't bring it in, my horses gave it to hers. omgosh....shaking my head and saying duh, I could have had a v8.....what a day! and its just starting.........

CB, has she ever had horses before?! Doesn't she realize that shipping fever/strangles is highly contagious? What vet would tell her it isn't?
When I had my TB mare, I boarded her at a friend's barn for a little while - until she brought in a sale horse that was contagious. Mine got to spend three weeks at the vet's barn, running up a big bill. She recovered just fine, but it was AWFUL. When she was well enough to move and no longer contagious, I moved her to a different stable where the owner was more careful about things like that.

Harry is right. She isn't going to change to please anyone. Who will be left with the vet bills? You. It is a tough situation, but I would be escorting her out if it were me. I had a friend ask to come stay with us many years ago, not telling us she was bringing a full blown adult tomcat. She would let it run loose even when we asked her to confine it to her room. Who suffered? Our kitten whose eye was put out by the tomcat. Who paid the vet bills? We did. She isn't a friend anymore. Sad, but your animals deserve the best you can do for them.

I just checked on the price of adding ground up rubber to our arena to aid in my bouncing problems. Cost? $25,000. That isn't going to happen. I had better get me a rubber suit if I plan on any unexpected dismounts from now on.

Ark, it rained this morning - again. But once it stopped it got hot and humid. The lake water is still too cold to swim, but a couple more days like this afternoon and it will be good to go.

Two hours later...
It's raining.
It's pouring.
The old man is not snoring.
There's a great big cloud.
That is way too loud.
He won't go to bed til the morning.

CB, Harry is right. Chris is one big stress factor. She and her animals need to be gone to protect you & your animals. Why should you & Harry work work work to take care of everything properly only to have her care less about you or your animals. This is very hard on you & Harry at a time in life when you & he deserve more. Send her packing. You've gone WAY beyond the extra effort of sharing and giving to help her, with no effort, respect, or thanks on her part. That's not how friends treat friends. Think of your health and welfare now, along with Harry's and your own animals.

Ark, this may make you feel better, someone lost a really nice show horse cuz it ate some of the rubber arena stuff......I don't like it after knowing that......folks in the west use a crushed limestone, it drains well, good footing, and cheaper....just an idea. I'm glad you r riding more. I know wearing a body girdle the really lightweight kind one piece may help with the soreness. I had to wear one for two years after my major surgery aka tummy tuck.lol. butit really helped and they have some good ones that are so light, comfy even. or biker shorts may help your hip....I bought my one piece at a surgery supply place, but on line u can look at them, if I hadn't gotten it I wouldn't have been riding again, I can tell you that.
I appreciate opinions and suggestions. she definately will not use safe handling/precautions....I took her back to the vet yesterday and had 2 vets talk with her about how it can spread, what she needs to do..etc....didn't work. I had a list of phone numbers of some neighbors, friends, cousins....she called the numbers and told them all we were kicking her out, and she didnt have anywhere to go or a car, we r taking her back to idaho and paying for it..back to her house. One of my friends sent me a scathing text! harry is like, she has to go, me, I'm hurt. ne8ighbor stopped by and wanted to know if he could do anything...ack.family members know me better....the vet said as long as we don't get them out of the stock trailer they can be transported...we will stop often. when we get there we will sanitize the trailer several times over and then paint the trailer which will seal any germs we miss...altho once dried apparently they don't pose risk.
Ellen, yes she has owned a few horses for few years...since she was 25....but having knowledge of horses, don't think so.

But on a brighter side its been 6 days since pony came in and my horses, knock on wood, arnt showing any signs. I got them each a thermometer...been taking temps, no coughs, no snot noses.

CB, I'm so sorry that her stubbornness is costing both of you a long-time good friend. If she won't listen to the vets, then she needs to go back to Idaho. If she won't listen on this issue, she won't listen on others either.

Ellen I know I'm stubborn too, but when it comes to an animals welfare I'm a true advocate on keeping them healthy as I can, doing everything I can cuz they can't do it for themselves. she just got up, hasn't even gone out to check their water or on them and just said, oh they r all better, don't worry.....grrrrrr.....I am just so thankful none of mine are showing any symptoms....one more day and we should be out of the woods.....as far as incubation period.24 hrs to 6 days....takes 21 days to run its course...and then if it backwashes there is bastard strangles to be concerned about....it effects organs and reproductory.....and can cause death. so I'm not breathing a sigh of relief yet....but each day passes I know we did all we could to keep ours safe....with my paranoia ways of doing things...lol. harry can barely walk out there moving panels and putting posts in....he will be having knee replacement in august...he's been exhausted...its been hot and humid...ugh...I was mowing last night and the next mower I get will be a self propelled mower, I was wet...soaked....but on up side I lost couple pounds of water!...then it quit....must have heard me cussin it out. I had to finish with a weed sling, all manuall.....not a weed eater, an old weed sling with wooden handle and metal blade. I shouldn't have cussed that lawn mower, huh!

I am so sorry that all that happened, but you know in your heart you are doing what is best for your animals and your sanity I will be praying for you that all goes well I have not been up to the clubhouse in several days so only today read about your troubles it has been to wet to use the scooter and it is too close to waste gas to drive but it is drying out so I will be up here more often my heart goes out to you and Harry

Whew. 37 this morning.........still cool but nice, sort of cloudy, breezy. Had a great run in the Ranger this morning w Rex The Wonder Dog. We bounced through water w rough rocks and climbed logging roads etc. Nice ride and we're back before afternoon rains. I'm amazed at what the that machine can do in low 4 WD...............WAY fun. Not as much fun as a horse, but eats less. I'm the current poster girl for crazy 4 wheeling in camp.

Well, chris is on a bus headed for oregon. harry didn't want to haul her back as she told friends of ours she lived in fear of us and is afraid to ride with harry...ack.....he was going to haul all her stuff back and we were going to pay for gas. I had planned on staying home to care for the sick horses. so chris got a bus ticket and right before we get to springfield her daughterinlaw called and said she would have us arrested if we moved the animals from our place????? what????? so we said fine you come down and get them. there was a bank and I pulled in and wrote up an agreement that by aug 12th they have to get her animals and stuff or she foreits them and I'm not responsible for their health or if anything happens to them and we had it notarized. y'all know I would never let an animal go without anything, but you just don't know when they r sick.
We called our pet sitter to tell her she would have extra animals and she is fine with it and then she said she talked to her sister and her sister can give steroid shots and banamine.....I was lil concernred about her experience when she laughed at me and says she's a big animal vet.....ill bet if you had a camera my jaw was on the ground!..she said she could bring her out with her and she would keep eye on horses daily. I don't know what it will cost, but it means I can go home and be with my girls altogether under one roof in 9 years.....oh yippee skippee....worth every penny.
Muley looked better this morning but I sure was worried over my older two horses....wow wow I'm excited.

CB, I'm glad you accidentally found a large animal vet that will help take care of your critters. I'm also glad that Chris is on her way - away from your place.
Heaven only knows what she told her daughter-in-law. You'd think that if you were such terrible people she wouldn't be able to get those animals off your place fast enough.
Just being nosy... Did you pay for all her food while she was with you?

She did chip in on food, I bought all this month tho so far. you know the ponies r already sick, and if we went thru a port of entry it could have been problems...all 3 had coggins.....but coughing may have alerted and probably better to wait anyway for their sake.
I have her dogs which harry says we r taking home to her..we will stuff them in somewhere!
And yes so lucky with the vet...I can't believe it still. we have been using vet where she works at but didn't know it is the vet that checked on the sick mini, so its great...she is doing this after hours so will cost less, but I so happy I can still go home...so happy I could just pee my pants.

Woohoo! I'm a happy camper. I had a couple of guys come clean out my garage attic and use the ShopVac on it. There is nothing in my attic. A lot less will go back in. Next weekend a neighbor is having a garage sale, and I'm adding my stuff to it. More of that after-50-get-rid-of-stuff.
The guy who weed eats my hill has a 17 year old son. The kid was going to come do the job, but he talked Dad into coming along to help. They were only here about an hour. I made it worth their while, and built good will so I can ask them to help me again if I need it.

Well how many more happy ladies r we going for? greymare is playing on 4 wheeler, ark is riding, ellen has a clean attic, iam going to see kids and leave horses in good hands, who is next? step right up and be HAPPY

I'm reasonably happy ... drove 2569 miles last week w/o problems other than the horrendous heavy traffic from south of Washington, DC to north of Baltimore, MD. Made two trips from SC to SE Penn. ... looks like I'm gonna do the same again this week.

PLEASE DON'T TEXT AND DRIVE AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO NOT DO SO. I dare say that 40% of car drivers were doing so as they passed me .... SCARY STUFF!!

Bingo, we have a happy man now too! woohoo!...that's some good pay on those miles rick! just going by what hubby use to make....maybe u won't have to do a whole year.

We will leave in the morning early..everything is in the car but us and the dogs and the cooler......horses will get banamine again in the morning and we r off....I really think it has helped them....one of the minis sounds better but the new guy is really coughing still....shootyshoot! I'm leaving him in good hands.
