Welcome to March!

MARCH 2019 Img_2110

This is the look Kumquat has been giving me for the past three days.  She stands on me day and night with this worried look on her face.  Why?  Because she thinks something is wrong with me.  She's right.   I slipped while dismounting Areion the other day and landed on my feet, but with my right knee in a weird angle.  I broke my leg.  I have a lateral tibial plateau fracture.... rake    I thought I had sprained my knee, but it got steadily worse as the evening went on.  I went to the doctor on Wednesday who sent me to an orthopedic doctor yesterday and will have a CT scan on Monday and a decision next Tuesday as to whether I need surgery on it.  I suspect I will.

They put me in a leg brace yesterday and I can now get around a lot better,  but can't put weight on that leg at all.  Poor Donnie has taken off work and done everything for me and the animals.  He's a good husband.  His vacation days include hauling me to doctors, cleaning the barn and feeding animals, and making meals.

So my spring and summer are already toast and Donnie's knee surgery is postponed until I recover. In the meantime, Kumquat will watch over me and get lots of extra lap time.

Oh, ARK, that is TERRIBLE! But you WILL heal, you will, you will!

And maybe sooner than you fear? I will be hoping and humming for that.

Hugs to you and Donnie-- and medals to him for valor, too.

I'm fine and still enjoying keeping up with you all.

Oh Diane, I am so very sorry about your accident.  I can truly empathize and sympathize.  Please follow the Doctors advice.  So very sorry that Donnie's knee surgery has been postponed also, pray he doesn't cause it to worsen with all his extra activity.  Gentle healing hugs for you both.  Sure wish I was close enough to help and relieve some of the burdens.  Yes, your Spring and Summer riding are toast but just think how great the Autum rides will be.  You'll be in my prayers for sure.

OH NO Ark..what terrible news. I feel so bad for you.  I'm sure the doctors will fix you up better than ever, just be sure to listen to them when they tell you to stay off that leg.  Praying for you & Donnie.

I'm busy on spring chores........I have a section of fence to fix..........needs replaced, not repair.

I'm slow and weak but still in the game...............

Everyone have a good evening..........God bless.

I brought home a strawberry onion from Florida. On the chance you've never heard of a strawberry onion.... Plant City has acres and acres and acres of strawberry fields. They surround the fields with onion plants to keep the rabbits from feasting on the strawberries. The onions are big and have a very mild, slightly sweet smell. This evening I turned part of it into onion rings and froze the rest of it. If you like a strong onion, this won't be for you. But, a nice crisp, thinly sliced, mild onion, deep fried in seasoned flour makes a really nice treat.

Thanks everyone.  I suspect I will survive this...if I don't die of horse withdrawal.  I can't figure out how to get down there yet.  Hopefully after they stabilize my leg, I can at least ride down in the truck.  Getting into even our small truck is a major effort right now.

Kumquat, my kitty, is still watching over me.  She is a good nurse cat.

Ark, can you get to the bucket of the tractor? Maybe Donnie could take you to the barn in that. Or a wagon hitched to the tractor. That might be a little lower to the ground to make it easier to get on and off.
When I hurt my knee two and a half years ago, I bought the lawn tractor so I could keep the grass mowed. The knee is healed, but loose. I still have the tractor and I use it to mow my yard and two others.
Kumquat is just sitting on you to make sure you don't move around too much. It's her duty to stay there and keep you warm. She would never do that for her own satisfaction.
Where's ThunderPuff? Is she doing her part?

The snow has started. The COLD is coming.

ThunderPuff doesn’t seem to like my exoskeleton brace. He isn’t quite as good of a nurse as Kumquat.

I am off to get a CT scan. Hope they tell me a miracle has happened and my leg isn’t damaged at all!

Praying for good news from your scan today. Praying for a miracle for you.

On a bright note, Pastor Arlie was at church yesterday. His tumor was NOT cancerous, he did give a little talk, but allowed Pastor Ryan to do the heavy lifting of the sermon. He thanked everyone who had been praying for him, so THANK YOU ALL from Pastor Arlie.

We had snow last night but not the 12 inches they were predicting, maybe 5, the sun is shining and the snow is melting. It's going to remain extra cold the next 2 weeks. Thanks PHIL...there are a lot of people who would like to get their hands on the furry little jerk. LOL There rarely is a early spring here in PA so we knew he was fibbing.

TRUDY:
Oh, that is such good news about your pastor!!! wavy wavy I am so glad for him!

We had snow spits all day, and wind, but no real snow.

I went for the CT scan today, but won't find out anything until tomorrow. The doctor will tell me then if he thinks I need surgery. Keep those fingers crossed that the original x-ray just had a streak or something on it!! Very Happy I am soooo tired of confinement and not seeing my horses, or even my roosters.

One of our across the road neighbors just asked Donnie if we had seen our doggy neighbor next door, no one has seen her. She is the one whose dogs I took care of for 2 months last year. We haven't seen her, I haven't seen anyone. I think I did see her yellow VW Bug today on the way home from the hospital sitting at a garage in town. Her tag says "Barkin Mad", so it had to be hers. The inquiring neighbor is worried she is in some kind of trouble. Stay tuned....

Trudy, that is such great news about your pastor! Prayer works.

Ark, have you heard anything from the doctor yet?
Are your crazy neighbor's dog still there? Is anybody feeding them?

Good news! I just got out of the doctor office. No surgery!!! I have to be careful and not put weight on it for 3 months. I plan to be back on Ivan or Areion by mid-July.

The doggy neighbor apparently fell and broke at least one rib. The across the road neighbor picked her up at the hospital last night. Her VW is also out of commission. We are a neighborhood of gimps.

Good news on your leg ARK.................WOOHOO.

This is funny but it's not. One of the blah blahs broke her shoulder and had surgery.........So, her right
arm is in a sling. Her brother was visiting here and has a big truck. She and her SIL got in the back seat
and of course, she couldn't close the door. Her hubby leaned way out of the front seat to close the door
and fell out and broke his right shoulder. No kidding!!! Oh boy, have they eaten raspberries. I wonder if they shower together.
It should have been recorded on Saturday Night Live.................Her brother and SIL left Monday so I
called and asked if I could help. She said, yes, kill me. They're both good folks so they will survive...........
We pray for them daily. You all can help, too.

Oh my gosh, Graymare! That is a story they will never live down. I do pray that they will be fine in a few months.

Ark, I'm really glad to hear that you won't have to have surgery and that you'll be okay too.
Your neighbor will probably be really really sore, but she'll be alright.

I needed some bread flour so I drove up to Shipshewana to get some at the bulk food store. The price is sooo much cheaper, it's worth the trip. And, it's better flour. Sometimes, I admire the way the Amish live, but today is one day I sure don't want to be one. The high today has been 18°. They were out in their buggies, doing what has to be done. The buggies are enclosed, but you can't tell me they are actually warm. I saw one horse, hitched to a buggy and tied up that looked cold. His back was hunched up and his tail was firmly pulled in between his legs. I hope he didn't have to stay there very long.
When you check out at E&S, they have boys to carry out the grocery bags on a cart and load them in the cars. The kid who did mine was about 12 years old, and one of the most cheerful kids I've seen in a while. He was more than willing to go above and beyond to help out.
