CB, glad Jessi is going to be fine, our weather is quite cold also, it is only 47 here now and by 10 p.m it is going to be in the 30's by morning they say we will be 27 but then by Friday we will be 80 go figure, it is also verry windy which makes it feel colder my daughter said that they are going to get 1 to 3 inches of snow she is excited to see it everyone stay warm and safe

The high today is +5, going down to -8 tonight. Texas here I come - on Monday.

At 7:15PM, computer says 15F "feels like" 7F and headed down to 4F over night.

I DID pick the warmest part of the day ...22F....to go get a load of wood and park trailer in the basement. We are able to keep house 70 - 74 w/o too much difficulty.

STAY WARM and feed extra hay! The Phony Pony got a "double dose" of hay this evening. I've been feeding her plenty "heavy" anyway, but tonight was EXTRA heavy!

We are going to our NEW Waffle House!! Guess that means we are moving UP in this world. Carol surprised me with that request!!

This is beyond....................

We had a heatwave today, it made it up to 7 degrees this afternoon.  It was 3 when I was out feeding the horses this morning.  Tonight it will go down to -6 with windchills 15 to 30 below zero.  That is insane and should be illegal in any state.

The little chickens are still in my bathtub, they are starting to like it there.  The crowing doesn't even wake me up anymore   .  The peacocks, guineas and rooster brothers were all locked in their house today, it was too cold for them to be out.  I shuttled warm water to them a few times and they would drink it greedily.  The horses are also drinking a lot of the water in the heated buckets, which is good.  They are eating hay like it is going out of style and need that water to prevent colic.  My hose is frozen, so I have to haul buckets of water to each horse's bucket or water trough from the frost-free faucet.  That is still much better than when I was hauling it down the hill in sleds!

My seal suit is hiding.  I cannot find the thing, so have been wearing layers upon layers of clothing and my body stays pretty warm out there in the cold.  Today Ivan had to check me out, he hates it when I wear something different and doesn't trust me until he knows it is me for sure.  I wouldn't trust someone who looked like me today either....

 

Keep looking, Ark.  You'll eventually find it.  I couldn't find mine for quite a while last year, but I finally found it when I was going through a storage tub that had some other things in it too.  So far, I haven't had to be out in that cold, but if I think I will, I'll definitely break out the sealsuit.
It's really too bad that company owner couldn't find a buyer when she couldn't do it anymore.
It's going down to about 8 below tonight.  We will get a few hours of 30s on Saturday, then the bottom drops out again for at least the next week.    I won't be here.

R y'all thawed out and still movin? lots of coldest records broken...wow....chilli willy here and we r in for some more freezing rain and snow before it moves on out. I cooked chicken in my crockpot and will put rice in it or lil flour dumplings after deboning it...thedogs will love their treat tonight! last night they had tuna gravy..they loved it...I think they like the cold weather as they get more yum yums! more often. we have been feeding hay and grain 3 times a day to the horses....they r enjoying their bedtime treat....and so r the goats! I have goaties due in march...so am hoping weather warms up or they will be kidding in the 3 horse enclosed trailer with heat lamp.
Lets do a naked spring warm weather moonlight dance! I'm certainly in!

Hubby left otto the bulldog out the backdoor and he hit the first step and fell on his butt and landed on his side slid down the second step and out across the patio......we both had to run out in our socks to pick him up and balance him to get him back in the house!...we didn't even realize it was freezing rain! Everything has ice! so much for going to auction in the morning....dwat! otto is fine, he was bouncin around when he got safely inside! lovely weather.....juuuuuuuuust lovely................

CB, I don't know what it's going to do at your house tomorrow, but we are supposed to get one day of 32+ so maybe a little bit of the ice will melt for you.

We had more snow this morning, but the temps are rising! It is warmer this evening, 37°, than it has been all week. It practically feels tropical after all the below zero windchills we've had. I had a guinea to die overnight, but don't know why. He may have broken his neck by flying up and hitting the ceiling. That has happened before. They get startled and zoom up. The old peahen is still hanging on, but not roosting. I made her a comfy nest on the floor. The two chickens are still living in the bathtub. (I have a friend who has two baby goats in her bathtub that were just born a couple of days ago.)

I saw a red fox in our barn lot field yesterday in broad daylight, so we put the dead guinea where we hope he can find it. Better to feed him than have him attack a live animal. He must be hungry to be out in daylight. The snow is pretty deep and little birds are coming into the barn to scrounge around in the hay the horses have dropped. I haven't seen these little birds before. They walk around within a few feet of us, not very wary at all. We are feeding wild birds behind the barn and at least one stray cat on our porch. The cold and snow have been hard on animals. The temps have been 50 degrees below our normal average several times lately. My seal suit is still hiding.

Ark, I remember my mother talking about the times when she was a girl and they were raising turkeys. The little ones would hatch and it was too cold for them to survive outside. So, they'd bring them in the house and put them in the warm oven. Rather ironic, considering where most of them ultimately wound up.

I'm driving this time, taking my embroidery machine and all the gear that goes with it.

We had just a tiny bit of very light snow this morning that gave us less than an inch. Then it warmed into the low 30s and melted it. We still have a pretty good covering of snow left from a couple of weeks ago. The extreme cold will be back tomorrow night.

Ellen texas is going to have snow and ice so be careful, let us know you got there safely.

Ark, yes, jessi is in the a8r force and I guess she is doing good. she sees the doc monday to see if she can go back to work...
Sorry about ur guinea, but I'm not sure I would feed the fox he will come back looking for more good meals. I have had baby chicks and goats in my house before and lots of puppies. we do what we gotz to do.

We went to an auction tonight, quite a lot of fun and only about 10 miles away.when we left we had just pulled out onto the road when we heard a thump like we hit an animal neither of us saw....so we r out there in the dark looking for injured animal and finally found. a chunk of ice that had fallen off our car that caused the thump..thank goodness. we really need a good flashl8ght! I'm thankful we didn't hit someone's pet.

Our ice melted today and our almost mile of dirt road was all slushy when we left for auction so I guess the slush froze under the fender..one more chilly week and then warmer weather...yesssss

CB, what does the weather look like in your area? Where in Missouri are you? I've been watching a band of snow moving across Kansas and Missouri. At this point, it appears to be breaking up and will probably be gone by tomorrow morning.

Most of hiways r clear...just back roads snow slush packed. but that storm across denver is headed across kansa toward us spose be rain....here. what hwy r u taking?

At the moment, I'm planning to take I44 across to Joplin, then on to Oklahoma City. But, I could go on down to Memphis and take I40 across.

We r between joplin and lebanon. which I44 goes right by both of those towns cities..its clear now but a few days ago was a skating rink!

Texas is going to have freezing rain and snow right where you will be going.

Several years ago, I was on the way down there and stopped at Texarkana for the night. During the night there was a serious freezing rain. The next morning, I thought I was never going to get the van doors open. I started driving and the closer I got to Dallas, the worse it got. The next 6 hours were the hardest driving I ever did in my life. Not especially dangerous, but really hard. I won't do that again.

Ellen, dallas is getting hit too. according to the weather channel...u may want to take a look....it doesn't look pretty next couple of days.

I'll keep watching and won't decide until tomorrow morning whether or not I'm leaving.

I think I would wait for it to clear up and out...it will be over with by tuesday probably. anymore if we don't have to drive when roads are bad, we just don't..its just not how we drive, its others out there you have to worry about that think they know how to drive on bad roads.

It was 50 degrees today!!!   Snow was trying to melt, but there was too much to completely melt in one day.  The snow guards on the roof worked pretty well.  Snow didn't come off in an avalanche.

We wore just sweatshirts outside today.  Donnie helped me get a lot of the muck off the snow as the temps rose.  I don't know how many wheelbarrow loads we hauled.  We wore ourselves out, but it looked better.

Back to cold tomorrow.... sigh.

Ark, she is likely to teach me a lot. She's had embroidery machines for several years, and she is the one who got me interested in it. She's better with software too, so we'll both work on that.
